Renew. Refresh. Rearrange.

Happy New Year!

Hope your year ended on a positive note
and that you had a lovely time celebrating
and ringing in 2017.

Looking forward to a
fresh brand new year?
I certainly am!

Staying hopeful, grateful, and faithful.

Praying that all of us will
move through the next twelve months
with good health
and happiness,
finding more time for family and friends
and the things that truly matter.

Reflecting on how precious life is
and to be mindful of the good things
that each day has to offer.

Trying not to fret over
what I cannot control --
to not sweat the little stuff.

New year,
new goals,
new resolutions!
Deja vu all over again.

Have been busy here today and yesterday
cleaning and putting things
back in their pre-holiday places.

Cannot believe that my two 13-year-old palmetto trees are still alive and kicking.
Got them the year we moved in at Target! Remember when Target used to sell houseplants?

Our Christmas tree was raining pine needles
or it would have stayed
in place until mid-January,
but the house has been dry
so the tree and fresh greens we brought in
quickly became the same.

So here we are in the kitchen.

I had to dismantle the built-in hutch
to clean up all the little faux snow flakes
that always seem
to get into
every little nook and cranny.

These little flakes are so cute but they do get everywhere!

I decided to bring in some additional things
for the rearrangement. Got excited
(looking at Pinterest inspirations)
to move out the K-cup coffee maker
and create more
of a baking station look.
(Why not? Maybe I will be more
inspired to bake?)

Had to throw in a little plaid! :D

Notice my great grandmother's large flat noodle board in the back of the lower shelf?
Love that thing. Has a rolling pin that goes with it -- same length as the board.

But then
my husband walked in and said,

"Hey... wait.

Where is the coffee stuff
going to be now?

Why are we changing this?"

Found this little wooden drawer box with marble top
this past summer at a flea market.Great layering possibilities.

Does this happen at your house?

Okay, okay.
So back to the functioning
morning coffee set up!

So much for a new 2017
fresh look? :D

Yes, same thing happens around here. ;-)
I've been putting things away today, but will need to work at it tomorrow too. I haven't even begun to put things back. Hopefully that will happen tomorrow too. It's always a lot of work, but I love bringing out my Christmas things. When I put things back, I usually tweak things so that all looks fresh again. First chore is to get the Christmas things put away in an organized manner and edit out more of what I didn't use this year. Ha! The never ending task around here!
Happy New Year, Alison.

What a gorgeous blog -- very inspirational! I too had to put away the tree early -- all those needles falling everywhere. Love the coffee station -- wish there were somewhere in my kitchen to put one -- but every inch is accounted for -- but a gal can dream, can't she?

Alison,
I had to laugh. I move things around as the creative ideas flow and my husband will say, where's [fill in the blank]? I love this time of year and when taking down Christmas I always get ideas for a few tweaks. Your hutch looks great!
May 2017 be a wonderful year for us all.
xo,
Karen

Hi Alison, Sounds familiar! Changing things around here require an explanation! But, I have to say it is fun when things are coming our for a clean-up it's fun to play around a little. I love your baking station, looks great. Your grandmother's board is a treasure. Wishing you all the best for 2017.........hugs.

I am praying for our country to survive the upcoming presidency of any incompetent. I plan to try some ventures this year as I continue healing and regaining strength. I also want to do some fresh new things.

I love this cabinet decorated both ways Alison. You have such beautiful pieces to decorate with and it is great that you use them. I enjoy changing out my decor in the dining room hutch with the seasons too. We aren't coffee drinkers so I don't have need of a coffee station. In fact, I still have our old Black & Decker coffee maker from the early 80's!! :) Have a great week.

Oh my!...I had to laugh!..loved your hubby's comment...I thought the next comment would say something about beauty over function!....Loved gazing at all of your baking pretties!...My getting back to "pre-holiday" status is slow as I find that I am finding more things to consider tossing out...tis the month to "let it go" ... Happy New Year!!!

I am partial to the baking station, but then again, I so love to bake. With coffee near by. Oh my.

I once moved a very large clock to what I thought was a nicer location. My family never forgave me.

I loved the new look, as I love baking and do not drink coffee! I hope that you have a happy, healthy and adventurous new year. Good luck with the sale of the house and finding a new one!
