Lake Champlain, Vermont |
Hello!
How are you?
Enjoying your summer?
As I was scrolling through
my cellphone photos recently
and I noticed there
was an overwhelming amount
was an overwhelming amount
of water-related images.
It seems to be the theme for the summer of 2015.

In June we drove from Illinois to Vermont
and back and crossed through Ohio, Pennsylvania,
New York and Vermont.
Our destination was Burlington, VT
which is on the east coast of Lake Champlain ---
New York and Vermont.

While driving through the Adirondacks,
we passed by this stunning waterfall
as we crossed over a bridge
in the small town of Wadham, New York.
We pulled over to take in the beauty
of this place. I could have stood and watched
of this place. I could have stood and watched
the waterfall for HOURS.
Mesmerizing. We were

Wow.
Can't imagine it with high waters!

It doesn't look like it but that's about a 30-40 foot drop there -- my image makes it look small! |

During that trip we briefly visited Lake Otsego
in Cooperstown, and Lake Chautauqua,
both in New York state.
On the way there and back we drove
both in New York state.
On the way there and back we drove
along Lake Erie and the Erie Canal for miles
and miles. So much history with this waterway.

Lake Erie from Ohio, or was it Pennsylvania? |
we visited Niagara Falls.
If you have never been -- put it on your
"Must See List". I have been there twice
and it never ceases to stun and amaze.
Spectacular, it really is.

Then a few weeks later,
my sweet friend, Theo,
invited a group of ladies to stay in her
lakeside home on Lake Paw Paw,
Michigan for a few days. We had a blast!
Such a pretty lake surrounded
by charming homes of all shapes
and sizes. Loved our time there.

Meanwhile,
back here at home
some of my friends and I
made a pact to meet one day a week
to sit along the water's edge
to catch up, share lunch, and get some sun.
Lake Michigan is a gorgeous body of water --
so blessed to live near this Great Lake.
This has been such a wonderful thing...
enjoying the beach with friends.
I have lived near this beach for over 29 years
and there have been too many summers
when I was too busy with work to take time
to sit even ONE day at the water's edge.
Sad but true.
Making up for this lost time
this summer!

And most recently --- last week
we visited with family
in northern Michigan.
My husband's family rented
a beach house along Lake Huron for a month
and we drove up to meet them there.
Amazing!
So nice to fall asleep each night
listening the crashing waves
along the coastline.
What a gorgeous lake.
Yes, another one!

Have you been visiting lakes,

or

this summer?
Tell me about it!

Alison, your water views are so enticing. Sad, but we've not been on the water this summer. I was going through some old photos this week and came across a stack of photos of times spent in our sailboat on Lake Travis. Oh, such sweet memories!
I've never been to Niagara Falls, but it is definitely on my travel list. Someday!
Thanks for sharing your summer travels. You've been busy. Love the idea of meeting friends at the shore to share lunch and catch up. Bravo for you and your friends!!!
oh good for you to have the time for such a beautiful adventure this summer. I have never been to the falls but would love to take the family one day. we are water people, my property actually has a small 100 acre lake on it and i can just take a glance and immediately feel calmness.
I definitely have lake envy after this post! My only "laking" this summer is coming up from this Sunday - Tuesday at a friend's lake cottage. I'm SO looking forward to it (I usually sleep on the sun porch where I watch the moon reflect in the still, quiet waters. Maybe, just maybe, my husband and I can sneak in a day trip to South Haven's Lake Michigan shore before the cold sets in.....
I am so in love with mountains and lakes.
Happy watering!
Alison,
I've followed some of your vacations this summer on Instagram. I love any view of water and some of your stops have been spectacular. I've been to Niagra Falls and it is truly a wonder. My boss just returned from a vacation in Cooperstown. It looks like it must be in a very area. Thanks for the armchair tour of the east coast and surrounding beauty.
xo,
Karen
Great photos of my home state! I spent many a day in Charlotte (the r is silent!) at my aunt's home.
Alison I loved reading this as there is nothing like being by the water, the peace, calm, and then the glorious falls!I would do almost anything to live near the water again!

Glad you are enjoying your summer...and I am enjoying your water view photos...I have been to Niagra Falls and it is indescribable ... would love to one day return to that piece of heaven on earth!
Allison, you have been busy!
I love water and have been lucky enough to live near it for my entire life.
Your photos of the Great Lakes are fabulous there is indeed a lot of history there!
I am happy to hear that you are taking the time to enjoy Lake Michigan this summer, it is always a good idea to stop and dip your toes in the water.
Have a great week and thanks for sharing your fabulous adventure.
Hi Alison! Beautiful photos! The hubby and I just got back from Western PA and we did a few side trips to Cooperstown to see the Baseball Hall of Fame and we took a wonderful boat ride on Lake Otsego. We also visited Seneca Falls, NY to check out the Women's Rights National Historical Park. NY is gorgeous. We were going to make a stop in Saratoga, but the hubby wanted to get to PA. His parents have a little place in the Allegheny Mts. I wasn't too happy, I kind of acted like a brat and had a temper tantrum......He promised next year. I'm hoping with that little excursion we could also see Lake Champlain and Fort Ticonderoga. I smiled when I saw the little light house and pier on Lake Otsego, because we were literally just there! Nice talking to you Alison! Have a wonderful week!
what beautiful lakes! You must have had a fabulous vacation!
