Tartan Memories

WASPing Through the Countryside: Photo
A scene in our living room one day

Tartan Books

Recently, I spotted another plaid
silk covered book at a local flea market.

Cannot ever get enough of those.

It is because of images like these
that I have been inspired to collect them:

Inspired by images like this found HERE

Instead of a "vignette"- someone on my staff used to call this "a moment"
Photo from NellHillsBlog.com  -- always love seeing her vignettes

Victorian Tartanware Letter Rack with Eight Miniature Tartan Books, the papier-mache rack with three compartments with ogee top edges, center of back applied with a small roundel print of a Highlands view, ht. 6 1/2, wd. 10, dp. 4, with seven fabric-covered miniature books (six "Thistle Library"), and one boards, late 19th/early 20th century, all Scottish subjects. Would look sensational on a writing desk.

I have posted pictures
of my small pile in the past -
adding new ones as I find them.

I think this was my very first tartan book.

And a month ago
I found a BIG red plaid photo album
with golden tassels.

(I really need to start looking for other colors of plaid books
but I guess the red ones are more obvious and catch my eye?)

This one is a vintage photo album
filled with someone's family photos
from their trip to Scotland.

Kind of sad that no one in their family
cared to keep it. :(

But now I have it and I am enjoying it.
Very sweet pictures and wonderful
handwritten captions.

My stack of tartan books is growing.
Yay!

Yes! Your stack IS growing! I sure enjoyed seeing the others you posted, too. You know, I'm not sure I've seen ANY except for one paperback which I actually have here in the house somewhere.....

you're always inspiring Alison, and I love when you show your plaid! Wonder why companies don't pick up on the fact everyone loves tartan? It's so hard to find new products with it, or it just falls flat like PotteryBarn's tartan bedding last year. I bought the king duvet and it just wasn't that pretty.

Alison, I am in love with that photo album from the trip to Scotland!! And it is in such perfect condition too! Often old photo albums with the wonderful hand written captions are falling apart but you have a real treasure! I will now be on the watch for some of these wonderful tartan covered books. You really inspire me! Linda

What a beautiful display of tartan. Hard to find it at this time of year even around here.

These are fabulous! I am a huge fan of tartan but I have never found any of these books! Otherwise I would have snatched them up!

Hope you are having a beautiful day!

Wow, you have a spectacular collection of tartan books. Each one more beautiful than the next. The one with the old photographs is a true treasure. A peek at someone's personal memories. That is amazing.

Nice to meet you Alison. Stop by sometime.

Alison, I missed this when you first posted. You know every one of these images make me smile. Will add some of these to my Pinterest board. You have a wonderful collection. I've added a few more, but don't have but a handful. Always on the watch for more though. '-)
