Vintage Mother of Pearl

Do you like
antique or vintage mother-of-pearl
handled serving pieces?

Aren't they lovely?

I love how
 dressy
 these little beauties are.
They add
a little touch
of elegance to any table,
don't you agree?

Mother of pearl handle forks ...gorgeous

Do you have any of these
pieces in your home?

Found these pieces below,
while searching for accessories
for my client/friend's home
this week. Could not pass
them up!

What did you find this week?

Alison, yes, I've long been an admirer of vintage MOP pieces. I have mostly serving pieces, though I have some place settings. I'd love to add a nice set sometime. It's on my wish list. ;-) I'm holding out for a set with unusual handles and pretty ferrules. ;-)
Your pieces are lovely. Are you keeping these or putting them in your shop?
Found some fun things here recently ~ French pottery, vintage picnic basket, and a vintage hen on nest.
Have a great weekend........Sarah

Hi Alison,

My great grandmother had mother of pearl serving pieces, they were lovely. What a great find you have!

I found some beautiful planters for my patio that I got a steal on! Couldn't.t pass them up!

Have a great weekend.

They're definitely beautiful. I'm afraid I don't have anything quite so "fine" though :)

I didn't find a whole lot this week - was busy enjoying two sets of grandchildren....No regrets.

Oh yes, I love these too! I have a couple of pieces but would love an entire set.

They are elegant Alison. I found my daughter who loves all things Asian some vintage 1940's Chopsticks.

I've been looking for these for a long time. World market sells some cute faux ones, but I'm holding out for the real thing. They uplift your dining experience! xo, andrea b.

They are stunning and I never see them at flea markets. May need to look harder!

Those are so pretty! I have some that look like that, but probably aren't real mother of pearl. They're small serving forks and knives that came from Southern Living at Home. Remember that company? It's now Willow House. Anyway, that's what yours reminded me of. They look great out on display like that too!

Those are beautiful. The only pieces I have are belong to a silver set of carving knife and serving fork. You displayed them beautifully- xo Diana

Hi Alison, Though I have never seen a mother of pearl piece in person, I fell in love with the look in Victoria magazine. They have been featured so often, and just as you've shown them in a jam pot with lace. Just lovely. This summer I've been finding vintage table linens and fabric. Enjoy the rest of the summer. Love, Penny

GORGEOUS!!!!!! Mother of pearl especially older pieces are one of my most favorite things. Have a few from my grandmother but would love to get more......so so elegant and sophisticated, yours are gorgeous!

Alison I would have snatched those up as well! The only piece I have is a lovely pie server, which is beautiful.

I have not been out and about...still rehabbing after another surgery!

I certainly do prefer the vintage pieces...they are stunning in those containers. However, if I had to choose pieces that are new and similar, I would definitely go with the Vietri silverware with the faux mother of pearl handles...

Have had a very hectic last couple of weeks and no opportunity to hit the antique/vintage shops..but hopefully will be able to soon!!...Have a great week!

How beautiful! I have always wanted a set of those, but never seem to find them at a price I can afford. Yours are lovely.

I love Mother of Pearl also. I love the soft patina it has. And you're right, it adds just a touch of elegance to any table setting. I don't have any mother of pearl silverware.....YET
But thanks for the idea. :)

Hi Alison, I wish! I've always admired the MOP but never started that collection. You found some lovely pieces. I found a great sale at Williams Sonoma and added some pieces of copper cookware.
Have a great week.

Hi Alison, Those are lovely. You were so lucky to have found them. They are scarce as hen's teeth around these parts.
I love how they look with the all white decor. Thanks for sharing. I will keep searching.
Have a great week. xo Ginger

Hi Alison,
Your finds are lovely. I have a few pieces and I love the patina and novelty of some of the shapes. What a great collection. I'm saving my pennies for my visit to my friend in Bainbridge Island, WA. We plan to do a little antiquing.

I not only love mother of pearl, I ADORE it! The only vintage piece that I have is a cake knife that has been in my family for at least a couple of generations. In addition to a lovely shaped handle, the blade is full of beautiful carving. Even though the handle has a chip on it, the cake knife makes its appearance at every special occasion!

I have one serving piece that I have had for years. I never even see it anymore around here. It is truly elegant and beautiful though.

I have been using vintage mother of pearl buttons for my Etsy designs. I love them. I'd love to have some flatware or serving pieces of my own. It's just so classic. Lovely post Alison!
