Back in Tack

It's January,
and for me, that means organizing
 and swirling around accessories
  and sometimes
even furniture pieces.

This is the tack room.

(You've probably seen it before?)
Just moved around some accessories,
and moved two pieces of furniture
and thought I would take some
updated photos.

This old saddle rack is now across from the little plaid sofa.

(Oh my heavens.... seeing this post makes me realize I have a serious plaid addiction.
Might have to seek professional help. CAN'T EVER GET ENOUGH! Please ..... LOL with me!)

I moved the saddle rack from under the window
to the side wall and then replaced it with the
"gadrooned hall table" that came from
 Source Perrier catalog,
remember that one?

I was so sad
when it went out of business,
were you?

I always loved their staged rooms
with nearly everything in them for sale.
I am such a visual person -- seeing the items
in a vignette is very appealing to me,
and they did it so well.
They made me want to buy everything!

Antique tortoise shell binoculars.

Antique brass military horse blanket marker.

Anyhoo... this is the tack room today
and it's small but cozy and it's my favorite
place to sit and have a phone conversation.

There is that large stagecoach trunk I posted about last week, under the table.

Antique horse snowshoes.

If you like the smell of cedar,
you would like it here.
A LOT of the first floor
is cedar paneled
and even after 72 years,
it is still very fragrant.

Decoupaged the top frame last winter with left over holiday wrap!

Max came in at the end of the shoot
to remind me to remind you
about the linky party here
on the 1st of February,
FAVORITES on the FIRST.
This time the theme is
your favorite pet(s)!

Hope to see you there.

As always, thanks for coming by today!

I love this room! It looks so warm and cozy, great for curling up in with a book or laptop...especially with all that snow swirling around outside. I LOVE that window, and the gorgeous table under it. And what a cool old saddle rack. I've never seen snowshoes for horses. The wood looks so rich, and I can imagine all the old leather of the tack has a nice smell. Having grown up on a ranch that my son is now on, I really am inspired by all your equestrian objects used throughout your house. Thanks for sharing your gorgeous house with us!

what fun it must be to live here. I love the plaid, it is divine for your house. Like the little boxes and the fox painting is perfect. Be sure and watch channel 9 tonite at 7. They are doing stories about great manor houses and then at 8, Downton Abby continues. Both are wonderful. Richard from My Old Historic House.

I don't think you could ever have too much plaid....or tack in the tack room, for that matter! We just decorated my horse loving/riding daughters bedroom and added many horsey touches (I hope to get the post up tomorrow!).

these images and the ambience you capture are incredible and so recognizable as YOU. i love all the warmth, and boy do i relate to rearranging furniture in january. i have problems. i am working on interior paint colors at the moment, and my kids are so starved for color that they keep asking if i can leave the little swaths of color they see on the wall here and there...permanently! isn't that sad? stay tuned!

What a wonderful cozy room, Alison. Of course I'm in love with your plaid pieces (can't get enough for me either), but it is the tortoise shell binoculars that I'm really lusting after. Tortoise is another serious addiction for me. LOL.
Thanks for sharing. ~ Sarah

Your tack room should be in the pages of a Ralph Lauren book...so beautiful and inviting. What is that saying, "Come sit with me and have some tea"..

Pretty awesome room!

Alison,
Your room looks so cozy and inviting. I wanted to tell you that I went into my friend's store the other day, and we were talking about the decorating blogs that we really liked, and she mentioned The Polohouse, and I said, "Oh yea, I follow that one too." I just thought what a small world it was. Have a sweet day, my friend.

Wow. I'm sooooo glad I found you through OPC! Her title was Grey Stables and since we have stables and always need inspiration, I came running. I share your ocd over tartan. All our horse rugs are tartan and I've collected everything tartan for years. Love all your touches and might have to copy your decoupaged frame idea. Thank you so much for sharing. Can't believe I hadn't found you while searching blogs n pinterest for horse decor/tackrooms. I've pinned this post and will be back for many more!

Looking through your blog, I saw a plaid frame that you did using wrapping paper. If I may ask, how did you do that and make it look so natural?
