Vintage Gobblers

It's almost turkey time!

Close-up of my large Thanksgiving vintage platter.

Less than a week away now.

This is a large  old classroom turkey cut-out.... great colors but he looks mean!

Time to pull out my very
very small
collection of vintage Thanksgiving
decorating items....
and there isn't much
I am afraid!

(I guess it is because I just don't think
turkeys are very cute!!!)

This is our favorite, a paper mache' set. Cute pilgrim girl riding a pumpkin cart pulled by a cute turkey.

Just got these little vintage wax candle turkeys today, and the wicker bottle.

I don't know
anyone
who really collects these
unattractive little fellows,
do you?

Sorry Tom Turkey!
:)

To rephrase the Statue of Liberty slogan, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled (turkeys) yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me!"

I have nary a turkey but that little pilgrim is too cute. I do want a large vintage turkey platter one day.

In Canada, Thanksgiving is in early Oct, and I don't think it's nearly as celebrated as in the US (at least from what my American friends describe). It's nice to see all the celebrations around this holiday!

Alison,
your collection might be small but it's wonderful! That little pilgram being pulled by the turkey is my favorite! The one thing I'm missing is a large turkey platter, have to work on that!

I think they are cute this time of year. Maybe not all the time. I do want some turkey dishes some day. Thanks for sharing at Wow, Alison.

I love your turkeys. I saw the first pic and wondered if they were candles. My mom use to have those exact ones. Then when I got to the bottom I saw where you said they were indeed candles! What a fun memory. Maybe I need to scout around for my mom's in some forgotten box! Lori L

Perhaps "cute" is not the proper word. "Noble" yet not aesthetically attractive until properly browned.

Still, we associate turkeys with a good meal and family get togethers.

I've got a few vintage turkey candy containers that I like to pull out this time of year and one red ware turkey platter. That's about it here. ;-)
Don't even have any turkey plates here, though I sure have seen some lovely ones on several blogs. Did you see Nancy's black turkey plates?

Well, maybe you just don't like looking at the poor ugly turkeys when you know that's what's piled up on your plate when you're pigging out on Thanksgiving Day! Hee hee....just kidding!

I wouldn't say I collect turkeys, but we do have a platter and a few figurines. Mainly I do more of a cute Pilgrims and Native American stuff for Thanksgiving more than turkeys. To be honest though, we just started putting up Christmas stuff today, so Thanksgiving is rather neglected at my house.

Hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving next week!

Hi Alison! Love your new/old wax turkey candles! I've got a few of those, too. I think mine are all Gurley candles. Not too many survived.

Hope you and your family have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

haha! I just bought a cream colored gobbler candle holder. I do have two really old salt and pepper turkeys that were my grandparents...those are the only gobblers in sight...

Well, I don't collect them either. I was looking around and other than the turkey projects from the kids, I don't have any. I need to work on that.

I love your vintage collection of turkeys. That classroom cutout brought me back for sure! But he does look mean. :) Your platter is really beautiful. I don't see many vintage Thanksgiving things around these parts I guess, because it's a bigger holiday in the US. Have a great weekend!

Your turkeys are really cute. I only have a turkey platter, a cream colored turkey to hold cranberry sauce, a turkey plate, and a Byers' Choice Caroler holding a turkey.I guess four pieces make a collection? Wishing you a Happy Turkey Day.

I love the patriotic Thanksgiving card. Very unique. I have a few turkeys too, though none as interesting as yours.

So funny, Alison...looks like YOU are collecting them now! I actually do have several old turkey salt and pepper sets, some turkey planters, and several of the old candles...so I guess I have a little collection, too lol!

Hi Alison, Love you vintage Thanksgiving collectibles. My favorite is the paper mache' set and the candles.
Your new party theme sounds like fun. Can't wait to see all the answers to the question. Maybe we'll all get some new gift giving ideas just in time for Christmas.
Happy Thanksgiving Alison......

I collect turkeys. Some are cute and some are inherited ones (in other words, ugly). I would love to find some cute pilgrims, but I have never run across any that thrill me.
