This is the playroom --
it's a fun space with old brick walls.
Originally, it was an old garage bay
where the farm truck was stored.
We recently got a new sofa in the room
that the kids used
as their game room/media room
since we have no lower level here at the PH.

I was not loving the black box rectangle

so I decided to create an art grouping around it.

I had found an old pine workbench
to sell at the antique shop, but I ended up bringing it in to use as the TV stand.
Trying to fill the wall space around
the TV screen was a bit more challenging.
Again, I pulled from the pile of things
purchased and tagged for the shop
to complete the wall grouping:
- an old tattered vintage tapestry of a hunt scene
- vintage tartan lithograph images of clan
patterns that were recently framed
- two framed vintage Currier & Ives
equestrian calendar prints

Cannot take credit for the brackets hanging
the framed prints idea ---
saw it in our local Pottery Barn store,
but for this space, it just seemed to work.
Hanging the tartan prints on brackets creating
a layered 3-D look works here. It transitions the space between the back of the TV
Was kind of fun pulling it all together.
A warm, cozy room where we have spent
Have you been challenged
trying to decorate around a
flat screen television?
Tell me about it!
Step outside the playroom and there are three old wooden hat molds that I had mad into mirrors hanging on the wall in the back hallway. |

Alison,
the brick wall is gorgeous, love red and your use of it. Your couch is fabulous, love the pattern and color! Everything is perfect, cozy, warm and inviting!
I have 2 hat molds made into mirrors also, they are my favorites.

Alison ~ OMG, I only periodically check back here once in a blue moon, and whalla, new posting from you that popped up on top. Beautiful as usual. Love the sofa, and the brick wall? Gorgeous! AND I see that lamp made out of a trophy. So cool. I think of you whenever I see a horse related item that I know you would love, AND of course, PLAID, which I still don't own any. HA! Have not found any side saddles for you yet. Miss you and this blogland.

What a great space. Love that exposed brick wall.
Perfect timing. I am at a lost as how to minimize/make more appealing the GIANT UGLY BLACK THING hanging on a wall in our playroom. Love the idea of hanging art from brackets and layering. Great Depth.
This is a great media room Alison. I like the gallery wall idea around the TV. And the bench is perfect for the TV table. Pamela
What a fun equestrian room! Love the art hanging and the hat molds!
BEAUTIFUL space Alison...LOVE LOVE the display you created around the tv!!
Alison- That looks so much better with the grouping around it than it would just STANDING (or sitting, I guess) there. You did a nice job of tying all those elements together. What a great room for the kids. I love it- xo Diana
I love that brick wall. Your decor is always top notch.
Love the grouping/placement around the flat screen TV. Nice to have not fun to decorate around. The brick wall, your tasteful touches . . take ones mind away from the flat screen to a look at tartans and a Currier. Nice sofa too . . .
Love this arrangement, Alison! Right now ours is in an armoire, but once we move who knows? Yes, we're moving. That table is absolutely perfect for that TV! And your talent at creating a gallery wall is quite evident, it looks fantastic! xoKathy
Juste parfait !
Il n'est pas simple d'accommoder les écrans plats dans le décor d'une maison...
Gros bisous
This is stunning. I am a huge polo fan :) Stopping by to say Hi from My Dream Canvas :)
I love this room and the cozy feel. The wall grouping is great and love the pops of tartan around the room, and you know I love all the equestrian art and touches! GREAT job! xo Nancy
Alison,
I've always wanted a brick wall and what a pretty room. I love the old tapestry like fabric and the paisley upholstery on the sofa. You always accessorize so well. I can see why this is such a relaxing room for your family.

Karen

Your playroom is a gorgeous space Alison. Love the sofa and the art work display. What a great space for your family. Well done!
Another fabulously styled room by you!!
I have given up trying to decorate around it because it is huge, and it hangs over our mantel. I painted a feature wall behind it with metallic gold paint and that's pretty much all I could do. It drives me crazy because I'd love to use that space for art because we're so wall-space challenged.
You, however, did a great job enhancing the wall area around the tv. Great job!
The playroom is such an inviting space. I know y'all are enjoying it!
xo,
RJ
