If I had a cabin.....

Do you ever wish
maybe you owned
a cottage or cabin
on a quiet little lake?

Plain and simple. No fuss. No frills.

Screened porch sleeping.

SLL

Nothing too big ---
don't want to clean
when I go there
  -- just want to relax
and get away from it all.

It's got to be kid and big dog friendly.
Fabrics and surfaces that can stand up
to time and wet paws or bathing suits.

 Recycled furnishings that could
tell a story about their passed down
lakeside life.

A girl can dream, right?

SLL

But then reality wakes me up
and reminds me that we
have to put two teens
through college!

Ahhhhhh.... someday?

But.....
if I could ever
own a little lake house
... these images
mostly from Pinterest
and a couple from
reflect
how I would love to
decorate it.

So tell me,
do you have recurring
dreams like this too?

Now doesn't that look like a dream?

I love all your pictures. Especially the ones with fish on the walls! Seems that cottages on lakes are in short supply, but we can all wish can't we.

Oh, yes! I dream, too. I especially like the interior pics with the cots ready for napping....and the two chairs on the dock. Etc. etc.

That last photo just took my breath away! I hope your dream comes true. In the second photo, I think the bed next to the fireplace looks very inviting ;o) You've provided us with some wonderful decorating ideas for our cabin at the lake.

I had a recuring dream for most of my life about owning an old farmhouse to restore with mountain veiws in the heart of Virginia.
Deams do come true! Keep at it.

Doesn't get better, only problem is if I did have one I might never go home, this is heaven to me, peaceful, quiet, beautiful and calm.......in other words perfection!

Well, we do live in a lake house and I love it. Years ago, however, we had a simple little cottage on the bay-with the sleeping porch and durable everything- sleeping room for 8 and it was so much fun. We spent most of the summer there and drove into town for work. It was such a simple life...and there are days I long for that simplicity again.

And, although I LOVE the lake house I would LOVE to live on the Big Water...the ocean or Lake Michigan...Blessings to you-someday when your kids are grown and gone maybe that dream will come true and YOUR kids will bring THEIR kids to visit gramma & grampa at the lake- xo Diana

OMG, these are all great!!! So glad I am finally getting your posts back :) All the pictures are just dreamy! I guess for now that is what we do in our camper. It gets us some peace and quiet, but a cabin on a lake would be grand!

I adore cottage life! Growing up, my Granparents had an amazing cottage on the ocean on the West coast of BC. I have such great memories of early morning Salmon fishing, card games by the fire, picking fresh carrots and cherry tomatoes in the garden. My husband and I have often talked about buying lake or ocean front property for a cabin. Alas, we have so far resorted to our 'cabin on wheels' (RV) and take the girls camping as much as we can, which is still a lot of fun =)

Thank you for this post ~ I am blessed to have a little cabin in the woods on a tiny lake, very near Spider Lake Lodge in fact and I was just kinda whining to myself about making the trek up there. {we live in TX} You have reminded me of all of the things I love about our cabin. It's cozy, easy to care for, and full of fun and quirky decor.

I swear that one pic at night with the fire pit looks exactly like my sister's house on a lake in Montana. It was custom built and is just gorgeous!

You have really hit the nail on the head here, Alison.
The very first pictue with those Adirondack chairs overlooking a pristine calm lake takes my breath away. That is exactly the 'FEELING' I'm thinking about when I talk about a Lake retreat. Or a Lake vacation.
Just add it to .....the dream files. :)

Alison,
I do love the idea of a second home. That said, my folks had one and their complaint was that they always seemed to need something from the house they weren't at! Ha. It wouldn't stop me, I'd love a getaway in the mountains where we could hike and find snow in the winter months. I agree, no extra fuss, don't want it to be a house I have to worry about keeping perfect.

Girl, I hear you! We have one in grad school and one in college and, as my neighbor said, when your kids are in college, your money just flows away like water. We miss the lake house my in-laws had in Michigan. Used to love to spend time there in the summer. Cottages are work, but so worth it.

I just decided the way to my heart is to float me around a dusk on that raft. How cool would it be to come home to, "I have a surprise for you" and that was it?

WOW! All the pictures are awesome. I love the very first one. The bed in it looks so comfy and the fireplace is perfect.
I would take anyone of them.
I do dream of a place that I visited with my parents. It still exists and is near Chattanoga, TN. I would love to revisit it in my lifetime. Too long a story for now. Perhaps a post.

Alison, I always dream of a lake side cottage or beach house or cabin in the mountains. Why not dream in threes. Odd numbers are lucky! Hope your dream comes true. I recently told someone that my advice to a young couple would be to try to buy such a property when first starting out, pay it out over the years, and when you retire it will be there waiting for you. Wish we had done that with a house on Nantucket. ~ Sarah

It would be nice to escape. I have so much stress in my life and an escape would be so wonderfully appreciated.

Love these photos. My husband knows how badly I want a little lake cottage. Something to retire to or use when the grandkids are around. Just need to win a little lottery jackpot!

Looking at all of these photos really make me want a cozy cabin by a lake. Such lovely photos, Alison! I love the old camp blankets, wicker and the sleeping porches.

My dream is not really a cabin but a very quaint cottage. Right on the lake. I mean the lake has to be in my front yard. :o) Only problem is that's not really my husband's dream. He would love a cottage on a golf course. lol.
