Silver Linings

From the moment
I laid eyes
on this photo,
I fell in love.

Simply divine.

Guess I just have a soft spot
in my heart for shiny silvery elegance.

Do you?

Antique silver calling card boxes.

Have you ever seen such a tub?

Can you imagine serving from this punch bowl during the holidays?

Would like to have a collection of these sterling tipped walking sticks.

I am not put off
by the fact that this wonderful
shiny metal needs a little TLC
every now and then.

In fact, I actually
enjoy polishing silver.
(I know, I'm weird that way)
I'm also very sentimental
about my inherited silver pieces.

Do you love silver
or is it too
high maintenance
to you?

It just says "class." I don't have too much of it, as my Early American style doesn't call for it, but I do love the look of it! When I did the Bed and Breakfast I had some warming pieces!

I love silver, but I'm kind of a slacker when it comes to polishing. Most of mine came from my grandmother. She probably cringes every time she sees it tarnished. She always kept it perfectly polished.

Love that tub!

That is quite the punch bowl!! I do love the shine of silver but the polishing is a bit low on my list of favorite things to do. :)

I love the few pieces I have. I don't use it much so I don't polish it as much as I should!

i'm with you. i find it relaxing to polish silver even though i do it rather infrequently since i don't mind the darkening of some pieces. timeless!

Once I get started polishing my collection of sterling trophy cups that are on display in my living room I can't stop. I need to do do this more often though. Yes, I do love silver.

I absolutely adore silver! It doesn't matter what kind: plate, sterling, flatware or hollow...it's all good. And polishing it is almost instant gratification for me. (Nice to know there are fellow "weirdies" out there!)

Thanks for your inspiring blog and beautiful photography.

Alison, As much as I love the gleam of silver, I have to say I am a bit of a slacker when it comes to keeping it bright and shiny. Consequently, I tend to embrace the tarnished look! LOL
Oh to have someone to do it for me. Ha ha...

I have some wonderful, unigue pieces that my mom collected... She was an antiques dealer and she knew her stuff - how to understand all the markings etc. It's greek to me, but I love the lines and the details. I don't like to polish although the polishing cloths make it a bit easier. When I inherited the silver, I ordered several yards of silver cloth online and I wrap the bigger items in that. They stay nice and shiny that way. I keep several smaller favorites out on display and I think about my Mom when I polish them, and I do enjoy that. Thanks for postignyour pictures!

I love silver, too! I love to stamp silver, use silver everyday, display silver and make jewelry from old silver spoons!

My favorite picture was the sink. Absolutely beautiful

Alison - These pictures are gorgeous and so inspiring. I love silver and have been lucky to inherit quite a bit of it. I collect sterling christening cups (the older and more dented, the better). I'm not crazy about polishing it, so I make my husband do it!

I do love silver, but also enjoy the tarnished look as well as the polished look. There is something so elegant about these wonderful pieces you shared, Allison. I have never seen a tub like that one before. Can we just say WOW?

Hi Alison...trying to catch up a little. LOVE silver and like you, its one of the few things I don't mind cleaning:) Something about seeing it take on its new gleam excites me....sound familiar? I especially love antique silver with a little patina, I get so excited when I find something really good!

I love to polish silver, but try not to do it too much since the silverplate on a teapot is in need of being resilvered. Seems the silver I keep on display "yellows" from the gas heat. I give them a good soapy bath and dry with a soft cloth. Keep other pieces and flatwear in Pacific cloth. I LOVE your blog, your excellant taste & pix!!

I don't think you are odd, at all.
I love silver and the satisfaction of cleaning it. I received my first place setting of sterling when I was 2 years old. More pieces were added each birthday, Christmas, and lots for my wedding. I have collected hollowware since then. My daughter bought herself a wonderful full (12 settings, 9 pieces each, plus serving pieces) set of antique flatware at auction a few years ago. She has been enjoying using them, since then. I have my mother's and grandmother's as well. Love it all.

I adore silver. I think it is timeless and universal, goes anywhere! I don't have any heirloom pieces, but I drop my silver into an aluminum roasting pan full of hot water and I dump in some baking soda....it is miraculous!

Gorgeous pictures, Alison!
I have seen a hammered copper bath tub similar to the picture you showed. It was so expensive!!
Have a great day!

Alison, these images are gorgeous! I love using silver and don't mind polishing it. Sometimes, I just need to have that little shine, along with my crystal.

I'm so happy to have found you from Tartan Terrace today. I have enjoyed a tour of some of your posts and feel a great kinship. My husband often says "plaid, is your favorite color" and I have a fair amount of equestrian accents in my home. I will enjoy seeing your next post.

I have lots of silver that I love to polish, so I guess I'm weird, too!I've been using my sterling flatware every day for 37 years---and hand-washing it! I don't mind a bit, because it has always brought me such pleasure.

That sink and tub are decadent but boy would I love to have them in my house. I love silver anything and don't polish any of it. I'm lazy.
Congrats on being featured in old painted cottage.

WOW! Love all the pictures but I am torn between the tub and that beautiful sink. Well, the few pieces of silver I do have not been polished in a while!! But I don't mind polishing it.

I love silver and thankfully have inherited a lot of it. I use the flat wear that I got for my wedding, Grande Baroque, in the dishwasher...oops! Someday it may need to be repeated, but at least I'm using it!

How do I get a hold of you!?? Don't see a contact thing on your blog...
Cheers!

I love my silver too. From my Reed & Barton sterling to thrift store treasures I love it all. Like you I find maintaining it pleasurable but do have to admit often having a hard time keeping up with it.
Beautiful post.

I am into silver and tarnished these days. Just has a classic old vintage look. I do not have much of it though and am on the look out for more fun pieces.
