Unexpected returns....

What possesses us
to keep certain things?

Have you ever picked up an old item
that is falling apart or rusted
or seemingly "worthless"
and you looked at it and thought....

 "why am I keeping this?"

I haven't ever used it,
not sure where it came from,
and I need to pass this along
and
get rid of it
already!

This little tin box
with a split seam on one side
is one of those "things."

Well, little fellow....
looks like your lifespan
just got extended.

:)

What's your latest
unexpected save?

I can't tell you how often I do just that. My attic and my basement are like my 'store' to return and borrow from and almost every time I return something to my 'store', I ask myself, do I really want to keep this - AGAIN? Then a year or so later, it seems new again and I think "oh, that's just what that spot needs" and it gets new life again. So you're not alone! I think that makes us "packrats"...I am a fussy packrat though so I'm not the type that saves 'everything' (honest, I'm not) Michelle

I guess mine was Ms. Sissy Dog the Beagle. One year ago Christmas, I went out my side door to come to work and found this beautiful, little beagle dog freezing in the cold. I finally caught her and after a trip to the vet, an add in the paper and posters across town. She is Mine. We are both the luckiest in the world. She is perfect. Thanks, Richard at My Old Historic House.

I think your little tin box is darling! I love making old things into planters. Unfortunately, my creativity doesn't go much farther!! But I do have a hard time throwing anything out, I'm always waiting for that inspiration!!

Jane

Such a great idea. I love it. I have a ton of things like that, I just need to be creative. This is such a good idea as a planter. Hugs, Marty

Great use for your little box, Alison. I've lots of things that I just can't part with. And sure as I do, I'll be looking for it! Thinking about the closets I need to get cleaned out before house guests arrive later this summer.

Hi Alison I have a bench in my front yard just like yours and I just love how it weathered!! Love that little tin box filled with flowers too, I wouldn't be able to get rid of it either. Very pretty, Martina

Oh I have quite a few of those little 'why am I keeping this?' pieces! But, it seems like the minute you toss them- you all of a sudden have a vision for it!! Your little treasure looks so charming as a planter~ love it! Thanks for sharing this over at Feathered Nest Friday this week :)

I just can't seem to get ride of those, "why do I keep this", things. But you never know when your creative juices will strike and you will be happy that you saved it. I love your box with the pretty impatiens. Those are one of my favorite annuals and I didn't plant any this year.

I have a whole walk in closet in my studio filled with old, rusty, chippy beat up things and I bought knowing one day I would be inspired to recreate them.

Love your new flower "pot"
