The Guest Bedroom

This is the guest bedroom
where you will stay
when you come to visit.

The antique four poster rope bed
was mine from my childhood bedroom.
When I got married, my mother and dad
brought it to me and my new groom.

 At the time,
we were living in our very first home,
a small Victorian outside of Chicago.
I was going through my
"Victorian/chintz/cabbage rose" phase of decorating
and the house fit the part perfectly.

My sweet husband said,
"I will live in a pink room,
I will sleep under ruffled sheets
with a bedspread covered with roses,
but I will not sleep under a canopy!"
(Couldn't blame him for that.)
So, we didn't and never have
put the canopy back on...
not even sure where it is!?

We found the new tapestry pillow on a trip to Paris.

The French peasant figural lamps came from an auction.
Little vintage marble box full of intaglio tokens.

His mother gave me the beautiful
heirloom cotton crocheted coverlet
that her mother had made.

My husband bought this for me for our anniversary one year while antiquing and I framed it.

My mother-in-law gave me this gorgeous French porcelain tray! I love it!

This little bisque couple sat on my grandfather's dresser when I was little.

I forgot to mention the red color on the walls.
I think everyone should have a red room somewhere
Though I love almost every color on a wall,
there is something about a cozy red room
that invites you in and begs you to stay.

That's why the guest room is red.
It sets a perfect mood for guests,
don't you think?

(You may have to brush a kitty off your bed before you lay down!)

Thanks for stopping by.
You are always welcome
to come and stay!

Your alabaster lamp caught my eye, too.. very pretty. Have a great Sunday.
Oh, and thanks for letting me know the paint color in your master bath.

Soo pretty and looks so comfortable! I love red rooms but today I just painted mine. My husbands den was red and he went out of town so out came the paint. It's a soft creamy color know thanks to Sherwin Williams.

Why, thank you for inviting me, Red's my favorite color ;)
Alison, this room is amazing, and yes, one Red Room is a good idea in any decor. What I love is all the beautiful accents, and eye candy.
The Lorgnette in the bowl of pearls, I have one which was my Mom's and it's in my office.
Incidentally I had to Google Inaglio, and this very post was second on the Google list. You've hit the bigtime!
Love the tokens, so much to see for any welcomed Guest. And the Bed, well the story behind it too. The perfect room. xxx tami

Hi Alison,
I love your guestroom..me too, I love red its so warm and inviting. I think my favorite thing in your room is the crochet coverlet made by your husbands grandma, its beautiful and so full of love. I have two of them made by my great grandma.
Its funny you said your husband would sleep in pink and chintz but not under a canopy..because Gary my husband says the same thing, he lets me have the bedroom anyway I like, but no canopy..he says it makes him fill closed in.
Your bathroom is lovely and just my style too! So are you taking reservations..LOL.
I have enjoyed catching up with you today.
Have a sweet day and big hugs, Elizabeth

You are so fortunate to have your childhood bed! Love all the sweet vignettes you have created. The French tray on the dresser with the sweet little dog figurine on it is just out of this world!
