Silhouettes and Cameos

What is it about a silhouette
that is so simply beautiful?
Could it be
the play of the
light against the dark
or the lack of dimension
that makes so much
of an impression?

Maybe.

But then I was
reminded how much
I love cameos too.

They have dimension.

So...
are you more of a silhouette
or a cameo fan?

I love them both! Several years ago I miraculously had Gracie sit still long enough to trace her silhouette, I then traced it onto wool felt and applied it to linen pillows for Christmas gifts. This year I will attempt to do her very wiggly cousins!
Thank you for the award! I need to figure out how to post it!
I spent the majority of the day with my camera, rather than my cellphone, taking photos and uploading them. I inadvertently posted them so I thought I would roll with it and keep the post.
We are all sick here...perhaps next week we can come out?
Oh! I collect Madonna cameos. They are difficult to find and I love a challenge!
I am also going to attempt to make the cameo chocolates for a tea party to add to the fairy cakes. I bought the molds on ebay but they seem so teeny tiny! My fat little fingers may not be able to accomplish this particular task! LOL!
Happy weekend, friend!

I can go either way. I have silhouettes in my home, and also cherish cameos handed down from my mother. I hope to soon get silhouettes of my grandchildren! Enjoy the weekend. Sally

I love silhouettes, although I do have my eye on a cameo in my mom's jewelry chest. I especially love a modern take on silhouettes. Bright colors, or just a twist like the hand-puppet silhouette wallpaper are my cup of tea. I actually created a large silhouetted piece of art for my living room as a more modern take on the classic silhouette.

I love silhouettes because, to me, they have a simplicity and innocence about them. The cameos are all lovely and the horse one is especially interesting. Have a great weekend.

I like both. I have a cameo I purchased in Italy several years ago and need to do something with it.

Allison, I am a definite Cameo Fan! I love the gorgeous Conch Shell Cameos, and the wonderfully antique Onyx and Mother of Pearl. When I was very very little it was in style to wear these with a velvet ribbon tied around the neck, it was a sort of throw back to the "olden days", but brought back in the 70's. I had one I adored, and still wear one from time to time, on a black pearl strand. Lovely post, tami

Wonderful photos! I have to say I like both silhouettes and cameos. I treasure my mom's cameo locket that holds a photo of my dad as a young man. ~ Sarah
