Are you a cowgirl?

My sweet grandfather

raised horses and cows

on the farm where I grew up.

I liked the horses,
but I loved the cows ---
and they were herefords,
polled herefords.

"Grandpap" was sweet and gentle,
just like his docile herd.

Polled herefords have
big sweet wide faces and
gorgeous caramel brown eyes with
long eyelashes.

I am mad for cows
(and the paintings on this post.)
Are you a cowgirl too?

Alison,

I wrote a similar blog a few weeks ago about my love for the bovines except I posted cow photos I had taken in different countries. And then I posted another one when a great oil painting that I bought from an artist in Texas arrived. It is a whimsical and fun painting. I don't eat red meat because I couldn't bare to eat one of the lovely animals.

Yes, I am and I saw so many antique cow oil paintings at Scott's that were way out of my pocket's reach. On the hunt for a bargain.

Hi Alison ~ the paintings were beautiful, and as I grew up in the Dairy State, I have always loved cows. {and sheep} I don't have any on my walls though. I saw some beautiful oils just yesterday and was sooo tempted to bring one home.
Thanks for sharing.

Alison, what wonderful paintings. I grew up in a part of California that is full of Cowgirls and Cowboys. I never quite fit in. I can't say I'm a city girl either, perhaps it's why I have always loved cottages, I'm somewhere in between I suppose. ;)

Beautiful paintings, I love the sweet face of that last cow. I grew up in farmland, but not on a farm. That would have been wonderful!

Jane

Yes maam! I love me some cows!!I've collected landscape art with cows in them for years! I had 2 black miniature Dexter cows for a while, but my faves? The long hairy Highland cows that I saw in Scottland- adorable:)

I was brought up on a farm and we also had a ranch that we went to on the weekends where we had black angus with a few herfords in the mix, but I never got the love, too much work. These painting are sure beautiful though.

Hi Alison, I love cows and am kind of scared of horses. Thirty years ago I lived on a farm where they raised cattle, soybeans, and corn. It was a less complicated time for sure. ♥O

I grew up on a farm and did not appreciate the cows when my life involved chores! Now though I love vintage pastoral paintings just like the ones you showed and would love a vintage painting with a sweet cow on it.

I love cows too. I too grew up on a cow/horse farm. My sister just adores Polled Herfords. I remember feeding a baby calf from a bottle when I was very young. These paintings are gorgeous. I wish you owned that one of the cow's face.

I love cows and those beautiful paintings are so peaceful. I also have a fondness for paintings of sheep and dogs. All of your posts are lovely and I always find beautiful things when I visit. Thanks and have a great weekend.

I love everything to do with life on a farm. Cows, horses, barns, fresh eggs, etc! I love your blog for that reason. And your beautiful home never fails to inspire me!

DEFINITELY a cow girl here! Although my faves are Scotland's hairy helan coos.

Alison, having fun catching up on reading the posts I've missed. Been in the garden rather than at the computer. ;-)

If you ever grew up on a ranch in Texas like I did, you can recognize the expressions on cows faces. It is great. There is an artist in Dallas Tx that has a series of paintings of herds of cows that are great. Her name is Sally Taylor. I am waiting for her to start selling prints so that they are more affordable for me.
