Separated at Birth? Hmmm. You decide.

In the first few months of starting this blog,
 a new blogging friend/follower,
Becky
(wonderful blog, please go visit!)
introduced me to her dear
friend, Waveney.

Becky
thought we should meet since we
"had a lot in common."

You may have seen her home
that was featured on
my sweet and talented friend Jennifer 's fabulous blog,
The Painted Cottage,
or here
when I posted a virtual tour
of Waveney's home in 2011.

Though she does not have a blog,
 she has been gracious enough
to allow us to see her collections
and her lovely home in all of it's
Old World charm and elegance.
So many layers. So many memories
of finding each and every special heirloom piece.

But let me get back
to the main topic of my post today.

I must share with you
how humorous and uncanny I find it,
that after I have posted simple blog story here
on my blog,
I can almost always count on
receiving a private email with photos from
Waveney sharing with me
something in her house
that she has
that I have just posted on.

It happens so often,
that I asked Wave
if I could share with all of you,
the parallel universes we seem to live in!

 Though she is in California
and I am in Illinois,
and we have never met
(other than phone calls and emails)
I can't help but wonder if we were
separated at birth?

Kindred spirits, no doubt.

Just take a look at some of her shots
that come flying through cyberspace
and into my email box
from hers
to share with me our similar collections.

For example...
here what she sent to me
in response
to my photo above
of the silver match box with the horse
that I found recently.

Can you believe it???

Last month, after I posted this photo
of my antique spool chest:

She sent me this one:

Which is sitting in her Great Hall

You have seen this shot from
the trophy case in our hallway.

...or my collection of walking canes in the entry hall area....

She sent me this in return from her entry hall.

When I posted the kitchen shot
of the hutch with the two Staffordshire lions
standing on the top shelves a while back...

... I had to smile when I realized
she not only collects Staffordshire
figures, but she has a lion in her hutch too.

These two came home in my suitcase from
a Parisian flea market.

Waveney's hutch..... notice all of the plaid ?   :)

Waveney's Staffordshire lion

We both love antique paisley shawl throws ...

This one is phothgraphed in Waveney's dining room.

And below are two photos showing some
of those collected by me.

I remember finding this old stained antique print
in its original frame last summer at an estate sale.
A Scottish hunter in his plaid kilt with his faithful dogs.

Waveney sent me this in response
to my find.

Same exact print! Her version - in color.

Without going in to too much more detail...
take a look at the additional examples below.
Unreal!

The pheasant my mother's friend Sandy's sent to me
when I moved here, we named him "Bob".

Our golden girl, Hallie

Waveney's golden boy, Hank

We both have two fox paintings.

One of the foxes that Waveney has painted!

And a second one here. Love it!

Waveney even has a red plaid chair, above.
Her second dog is black, like my second dog Cada

but hers is a Scottish terrier and mine a labrador.

 So many similarities
that we know of --
both in the same profession -
designing interiors for a living.
Who knew?

We will meet one day --
of this I am sure!

Just wanted to share this strange
tale of two girls
in two cities
drawn to the same
two (million)
things.

:)

Is there another person
you have run into
that you have had the same
kind of parallel
similarities with?

Tell me about it!

I hope the video cameras are rolling when the two of you meet in person! (I wish I DID have something to match each of these collections. The two of you have amazing "eyes" for decorating, in my opinion.)

Alison! That is really unbelievable. And the same picture? Yes, I would definitely say twin sisters from different mothers. This actually happens with my sister who lives in Indianapolis. We both buy the same things at different times. When I walk into her house, I say, "I have that!" Too funny.

Kim

Alison, your two are definitely two peas in a pod. And I admire both of you for your exquisite taste and eye for finding wonderful treasures. I do have a friend like this. We both pick up the same thing, have found ourselves bidding against each other on eBay for the same item, visit each other only to see that we have purchased something very similar if not the exact same thing. And we don't live in the same town. '-)
It's fun to have a friend like this. '-)

Alison .... you two are definitely twins! It is uncanny the similarities and you have never even met one another! I think you should get together and go riding and antiquing together followed by a fabulous dinner ... i bet you would chat nonstop... So lovely to hear a nice story of connecting with like minded souls! Have a beautiful weekend

It is uncanny and I do believe you very well may have been separated at birth. I think the two of you should make plans to meet and share even more. What a wonderful little world is this Blogging world we are in and what a blessing to meet all these people that would have otherwise passed unnoticed in our lives. :)

What really makes this interesting is both your styles are unique. What you collect isn't on the current trend list. I LOVE you and your twins style. What's that they say? We all have a twin out there. Through modern technology it was fate that you should meet each other.

I just love that story! I have a few of the same things you do, and believe me, if I found them and could afford them I would have them all. Your house (now Waveney's too!!) is one of my favorites in all of blogland. Your taste is just impeccable. What a great post. Thanks for sharing. Lori Lucas

Alison, I am glad to have been instrumental in hooking you two "sisters from different misters" together! Really, it is truly uncanny the similarities in taste. Old world charm fills both of your homes. As for me, I have friends who like similar things as I do and we collect a lot of the same things.

Great post! You both will have a ball when the day comes that you get to meet in person.

Happy Easter and Happy Spring!

Alison, this is wild! I had to show my husband since he wondered why I am kept saying OMG ;o)

Perhaps you will do a Part 2 some day, and I'd love to know how you and Waveney chose interior decorating as your careers. Did you know at a young age that you had the decorating gene?
