Heart Palpitations

When you are out antiquing,
 treasure-hunting,
flea marketing, thrifting
 or whatever you
wish to call it,
what ONE thing
stops you dead in your tracks?

Is it
IRONSTONE,
 TRANSFERWARE,
 SILVER,
or old
TEXTILES?

Source

Is it
 PORCELAIN,
CRYSTAL,
 FINE ART,
or maybe antique
LINENS?

Maybe CROCKS and EARTHENWARE,
an ARCHITECTURAL salvage piece,
a tattered TAPESTRY,
 old LEATHER BOOKS,
or a fine vintage
PURSE or a piece of JEWELRY?

What is it
that rocks your world
(and sometimes your wallet)
that sends you into PANIC mode???

 You know, full blown
 heart palpitations of happiness
and sheer euphoria?

One happy shopper at a garage sale
after finding that PERFECT treasure. She's okay, don't worry.
Just look at that SMILE!

Do share, please.
I would LOVE to know.

Can you name just
ONE
thing?

(Or two or three or ???)

I would have to say that anything Toile usually gets my heartbeat up...Any Tole tray does the same... any vintage dog figure...but then again...a lot of my serendipitous finds were totally unexpected delights...they shouted out my name - and I found them...and I was reaching for them. :-) Case in point some LustreWare cups and saucers I only JUST stumbled across. Love at first sight...who knew that would be my treasure for the day...? :-) Enjoyed visiting!!! pretty pics!

Ironstone and vintage textiles. (Additionally the "surprises" that take call my name out of the blue!)

Let's see. Ironstone, vintage olive jars and confit jars, oil paintings with cows(love the one you showed), wood boxes, and pretty lamps. Oh, I have such a problem.

Vintage white, cream, or pastel linens. Old baskets (got one yesterday), urns, alabaster, and the list could go on and go. Sometimes items find me-for instance recently I have stumbled on several perfume stoppers and old perfume bottles made in Europe. Just keep finding them.

Sorry cannot limit it to one! But, silver, linens, blue and white, transferware to start.....could go on and on and on...its all so much fun!

I don't know that it is one thing, Alison! I love to find French looking wire and metal baskets; I love toile and transferware. Bunnies on display will definitely have me looking them over ~ every time. I've recently taken to looking at textiles, mainly for what I can create with them.

Oh goodness! That's a tough question. I get excited when I see something that I've been looking for at a great price. That usually does it every time. I like all things farmhouse, belgian inspired, typography, architectural salvage, burlap etc. It's all good!

my latest obsession is transferware (especially brown), ironstone, silver and tapestries. Oh, and I would love to add more original art to my small collection =)

I hah a hard time thinking of one thing... I do love trophy cups and brown transferware BUT I think I just never know what I am going to find, what I don't need, but that calls to me and haunts me to take it home... My palpitations are ever changing! :P

All of the above. Give it to me, I want it, I have to have it, it's mine, I found it first. It doesn't look good in your house, you know I collect that. Ok you can have it!!!Richard from My Old Historic House.

For me it's ironstone, transferware or a pretty flowered plate. I don't have the room for more stuff but I still look (and buy)! Enjoy the weekend! Pamela

I'm a magpie by nature, so you can bet my attention will be grabbed by anything remotely pretty although it's mainly china and silver. Though the things that stop me dead and set my heart aflutter the most are little stacks of letter from bygone eras or old journals full of personal thoughts; I absolutely love recollections from ordinary people like myself.

OMgosh, where do I start? English silver, tea caddies, Victorian work boxes, tartanware, transferware, majolica, Staffordshire figures. Whew, my heart is racing just naming all these. Oh,and Southern sugar chests.
Now, aren't you sorry you asked? :)
Have a great weekend,

My problem is that I love so many things..you name it, beautiful linens, silver, crystal, ironstone...Now..is that lady on the stretcher smiling because she passed out after her jubilation over finding a good deal OR is it that nice young man at the foot of the stretcher...LOL!

Marty@A Stroll Thru Life said...

Oh my, I have to name just one. Well I don't really think I can, All of the above stops me. Gorgeous pics and I would want everything. Hugs, Marty

If I have to name one I'd say silver, hotel, silver plate or sterling...love it. Lots of second and third choices but I'll show control. Your pictures were amazing, hope you're having great success with your shopping.

Silver. I always stop for silver, although the last time I was out antiquing there was an odd lot set of brass items(vases, candlesticks, etc.) that I kept coming back to. Should've brought them home. They felt so good in my hand. The more I think about it, the more I think I need to jump in the car and see if they're still there. Fun reading about everyone else's obsessions.

Hi! Alison,

Soooo many to choose from. I love beautiful and expressive art, anything from the Victorian, Egyptian and Roman period.

Anything that captures my eye and makes my heart skip a beat lol ....is a "treasure".

Recently, acquired a lace Victorian Jabot in perfect condition....love it!

The images in your post are great too! Thanks for sharing ;o)

Enjoy! a beautiful weekend.

Hugs!

Accent tables, oil paintings, needlepoint pillows, staffordshire figures, majolica, walking sticks. Is there a support group for us??

Sue said...

Chunky big gold framed mirror, blue & white lg pieces (fish bowls, jars, lamps) and needlepoint pillows are on my radar lately. Oh and oil paints that hint at the shore of some sort, framed in old gold.
