Living Room

Here are some views
of living room.
The sun was coming in the other morning
and it bathed the room in the prettiest way.
I also took some pictures when the
evening sun was shining through as well.

Do you live in your
living room?

Framed Aubusson tapestry cartonniere.

It's a great room
and I really love it.
But I find myself in the kitchen
or family room more often,
imagine that.

This is "Bob" ..... my daughter named him when she was little. Even the cats won't mess with Bob.

Oops. Pay no attention to the bird nest of cords under the buffet!!!

The hayloft above this space
was cut back to allow the room
to have a cathedral ceiling
when the barn area was converted.

You can see the railing of the loft area
which is now the master bedroom.

Portrait of Grandfather....... not mine, but somebody's!

Morning sunlight streaming through.

Empty decanters.... teens in the house, what can I say?

Thanks for stopping by today!

My grandfather's gout stool. It has an accordian base that lifts and tilts in 10 positions.

Oh Alison your house just amazes me with it's beauty every time I decide to pop in and visit your blog! You have a wonderful decorators touch :) Hope you are enjoying your summer. And YES, we use our living room every single day. Our wood floors are worn down to splinters we use it so much, and that's our room with no tv, just musical instruments, a fireplace and a cozy spot to read or relax :-)

Alison, I'd love to spend time in this room. It is full of texture and interest and looks very inviting. I have 3 of those Chinese brushes too, but different handles from yours. I like the way you displayed them. Thanks for sharing the details of your living room and the way the sun dances across it through the day. This post has me dreaming about living in a repurposed horse barn. You have the most charming home. ~ Sarah

Alison,
Your home is wonderful, love seeing the different rooms and what you've done with them! Your wood floors are amazing and of course you know I love all your equestrian touches! "Bob" brought a smile to my face, I have his "brother" perched on top of my cabinet in the family room! He was the logo for our store and on our business cards. He was living with a good friend and customer of ours in his den untill he gaciously was allowed to come live with us at the store. When we closed, he came home with me and we've been very happy together ever since!

Alison, this is another beautiful room! I love that you have a TOUCH of animal print, I love animal print too, but not over the top:):) Your furniture pieces are gorgeous, I have never heard of a gout bench! How interesting. I am SO GLAD that others have "birds nests of cords"!!!!! Luckily, when we built this house I thought about putting an outlet under where the sofa would go for lamps. So, at least there, they are hidden!!!! I never tire of seeing your gorgeous home. XO, Pinky

Gorgeous space... love the light coming in... you know what I love most about the space?? (and there is a lot to love)... but my favorite is the way you have your furniture arranged... the conversation areas and the ability to still walk around the space easily.... And yes...my decanters are empty to...as is the wine closet. Too many teenagers around...

Have I told you lately how much I love your home? Such a pretty living room! We only go into ours to play piano or guitar, or sometimes I hide out from the kids in there while I'm trying to talk on the phone :) Right now I'm experiencing a hardwood flooring crisis... the old floor is ripped up, and no one knows when a new one is going in. So, I guess we won't use it for awhile ... ugh!

Your room is beautiful, as well as the rest of your house. I've yet to see anything in your home I haven't liked.

I too know what you mean about ignoring the living room. If our living room wasn't on an open floor plan and had doors, we would probably change that room into something else because I could count the number of times on one hand that we use that room in a year.

Thanks for sharing your space!

I love this room and so glad you shared more of it. What wonderful furnishings and accessories all carefully placed. Love the railing and those old wood floors on the balcony. The carpet you have is what I want to replace my carpet in our bedroom with. You could share this at my party, girl.

Beautiful room! I find that I spend way more time in my kitchen and family room, too. Still I do entertain in the living room, so it's not just a pretty room. Love your use of animal print! And I love the railings above in the loft. Thanks for sharing.

Your living room is very beautiful! I love the masculine feel of it. The loft area with the fabulous railing is wonderful.
I don't live in my living room in the summer time, but I do a lot of living there in the winter. I don't have a family room, though, that may be why.

Alison, While I love every detail of your gorgeous living room and your attention to detail is just perfect, what I also love are those windows, high ceilings, and the palms in the urns. Oh, what I wouldn't give for high ceilings and tall beautiful windows. What do you do about privacy with no window treatments?
I also adore the chunky lamp in front of the windows.
Hope you're having a great weekend... and good for you having empty decanters with teenagers in the house.
