Signs of Fall

The maple along the fence
is always the first to turn.

It's still pretty warm here in Illinois,
but the sky is gray and it's been
drizzling rain on and off all day.

Remember the antique top hat mold I found? Here it is as a candleholder.

I am trying my hardest
to hold off
until October 1st
before buying
our pumpkins and gourds.
Only five more days to go
and my willpower is fading!

Thank goodness I can get
a little fall decor fix with the
velvet pumpkins that I got last year.

They are from Hot Skwash.
I am sure every blogger must have
posted on them last fall
because they are so soft
with a deep rich velvet
and even better....
they last from year to year.

So for now....
the velvet pumpkins
are holding me over.

The velvet pumpkins have my heart going pitter patter!! They are gorgeous and go with your decor so well!!

Yes, our weather has been really dreary here in Chicago and I hear we have a few more days of it. I'm holding off on the pumpkin buying, too...the squirrels always get mine and I have nothing left to carve for Halloween!!

Jane

Those pumpkins are grand! I have never seen them before. I have all my lit pumpkins out for Halloween, but I too, am holding off. I want to decorate my new porch so badly, but know I will get in the carpenters way :( I will look forward to Christmas for that!!!

I love those little velvet pumpkins and have entered a few giveaways hoping to win some. I wait until October too before buying pumpkins because they do better in cooler weather. Your decorations look great.

I love the beautiful jewel tones of your velvet pumpkins!! I am holding off getting my pumpkins too. Our town is having a harvest festival on 10/1 and it will be so much more fun getting them there than at the grocery store.

What a beautiful post, fall is indeed in the air but over here we cannot seem to get down past 80 and I am longing for a really crisp cool morning. Your post was very inspirational, as you captured the essence of fall perfectly.

Your photos are wonderful and very inspiring. I love the way you use things like needlepoint as a background. Very clever. I always love to visit. Thanks for sharing. Richard from my old Historic House,

Those pumpkins, Alison, are so pretty. I've been admiring them for a couple of years but have never indulged myself. And your photos are always so perfect. Nicely done, as usual!

It's still in the 90's here ~ :-( Wayyyy too warm for pumpkins and it's driving me crazy. They'll cook if they're out now.

Gorgeous photos. I love the top hat form as a candle holder. I also use putka pods for decorating as I love their colours. Your velvet pumpkins are sweet. We've been enjoying some really sunny and warm (hot) days too. Have a great week. Pamela

Alison I love the top hat and the candle holder. Is that potpourri?
No I have not seen those lovely velvet pumpkins before. They are gorgeous.

Gorgeous colors on your velvet pumkins. I'd love th have some real ones now, but it's still to hot outside and I doubt they'd last very long. I like the little dried pumpkins ?? in the candle holder.

Gorgeous! It's 83 here today and although I'd love to decorate for fall it's just not feeling very fall like. Perhaps this weekend. Hugs
