School finally started
I am hosting a last minute coffee
for the moms on my street
right after they put their young cherubs
on the big yellow bus this morning.
They are bringing the food
and I am to provide the coffee.
No decaf, they said!
It seems like only yesterday
that my big ones were
climbing up those big old stairs
into that same yellow bus.
:)
Time sure flies,
doesn't it?

Oh Alison I remember those days. Our number 1 son rode the school bus. Our other children were raised in a subdivision where we were close to the school. So some days I would walk with them and then I would either have a few friends in for coffee. We would switch it up. Then home we would go to do our chores. Before you knew it school was out.
I love the brown transferware.
Hi Alison ~
Goosebumps, here,
as my house has
a similar feel
to yours....AND,
I follow a lot of
the same blogs on
your sidebar : )
Have even met many
of those bloggers
at Midwest events
over the last year.
Looking forward to
following....
xx Suzanne
PS: YES, the years
fly by....too darn
fast. You are so
lovely to host this
sweet coffee. Bet
they LOVED it!
Dangit! I wish I was your neighbor:( LOVE the transferware! And your pics are fab:
I used to ride the school bus for i hour each way. In winter it was dark when we got on and off. made for a long day for wee ones. Other wise, i enjoyed my fellow bus riders and we did some homework and talked about every body else. i love your brown and white transfer. looks like it was a fun morning coffee. Thanks for sharing. Richard from My Old Historic House.
What a lovely thing to host a coffee for the moms. LOVE your setting and transferware. How nice to be close for neighbors to drop in. When our son was in elementary school, we lived out in the boonies. In the winter he'd ride his sled down the hill to the school. That wasn't nearly as long ago as it sounds. LOL
Have a great weekend
How sweet of you Alison to host coffee time with your neighbors! Wish I was one of them:) Martina
Your setting is so inviting - I would come just to have coffee in your brown transferware!!Sally
Alison, what fun to have a get together on the first day of school. Love your china.
Hi Alison, I enjoyed your morning coffee party today. The transferware and pretty linens are just lovely. I think when my kids went on the bus I probably went and made the beds. No coffee parties for me. Pamela
What a lovely spread.... sure wish I lived on your street!! xxoo
Oh how fun. I was a working mom so I always missed these fun coffee get togethers. I am sure everyone had a great time. Your tablesetting looks gorgeous. Hugs, Marty
Love your brown transferware! Yes, I remember putting my baby on the bus for the first time. He turned 37 on Monday...
Oh what precious memories this brings back! In my old neighborhood, where my children grew up, several of us Moms started getting together for coffee the same way. 30 some years later we are now 15 women, get together every month for birthdays and even do a long weekend trip to the beach (coming up soon!!!!). I adore your brown transferware! I had never heard of it til I started blogging!!!! Can you believe that??!! I sure wish I were your neighbor! These friendships are a treasure. XO, Pinky
What bittersweet memories! Bitter, remembering that my son was NEVER ready on time and sweet, because they were such innocents. It was a time of true purpose and a time when my patience was tested each day. What a great idea to host a morning coffee. I've done it several times and it's always fun. Enjoy!
I remember...
Everything looks so pretty! Did you have a fun time? I hope there were few tears and lots of laughter.

Yes, time DOES fly. What a lovely idea to host the coffee! You are certainly providing a fine setting.
Oh how beautiful! What a beautiful, cozy and elegant feel! So wish I lived closer so I could pop over for some tea and company! Looks incredibly inviting!!
I do think most all of us can relate! My hairdresser was in tears this morning because her youngest went off to college...in our same town...but things are forever changed. LOVED your pictures, dishes, and accessories. Beautiful!
Donna
I do agree with that. It goes by in a flash.
Beautiful photos!
How sweet! Such a lovely setting ... they are so lucky to have you! YES...time flies...makes me want to cry! Just loved having my children living at home with me!
Blessings,
Cindy
How nice that you all get together!!! The first day of school is always mixed emotions -- sad because they're gone but glad because they're gone!
Alison, What a great thing to do! Getting together... a little something for the mom's to look forward to.
It's a good thing I was not there... I have been looking for brown transferware for the longest time and not only is your beautiful, but you have it displayed for coffee in the most fetching way!!! I might have had to borrow your gorgeous set!
I have to stop "pinning" you house! I get the best ideas when I stop by the Polohouse.
xo Yvonne
No more big yellow buses for me, either! It does go so fast. Tuesday I'm taking my oldest to college. It's going to we a weepy one! Who wouldn't love to come to coffee at your house? You set the scene so beautifully.
it really does. and i still long for those earlier days when life was simpler because the world didn't have such a firm grip on my guys. they depended on me for emotional support and for laughter, and i was a hero everytime i baked cookies. now it's more complicated. there are lots of girls who have become that emotional support. and it's their friends who make them laugh the hardest. and it's tough finding a time they will be home to bake cookies!
what a lovely gesture to get together with the other moms! i'm still under the weather but hopeful that this gorgeous sunshine will make it a little easier on me.
love.

So much to comment on in this delightful post, Allison! First off, awesome idea, the coffee for the first day of school, second, that little Bear shaker I spyed! Is it holding cinnamon? And third, the lamp! My dream lamp! Fourth, the brown and white china, the napkins, all of it, put together perfectly, makes me wish I had littlen's off to school, well done, tami
How sweet! Your table is so beautiful...I am sure they love coming to your house for coffee :)
How nice, Alison! I think it's a great idea to host a coffee the day the kids start back to school. Everything looks so pretty for your coffee!!!
What a wonderful idea Alison! That way all the mothers can comiserate the first day....my tears (and there were always tears) were mixed....happiness and sadness...happy for them and their exciting year ahead and sad for me....as I knew they were getting a step further away....
Beautiful photos...
