Equal Opportunity

Montrose Harbor

Earlier this week I posted about my trip
to the city with my daughter.
It wouldn't be right if I didn't
also post about my trip to Chicago
today with my sweet son!
He needed to renew his passport
for some traveling
he will be doing in a few weeks.

But before we went to stand in line
at the federal building,
we had to stop for donuts at this place
I kept hearing about this place
called The Donut Vault.
It's darling inside, but tiny... like maybe 4 ft wide
by 20 ft long, and they sell only 4 kinds
of the most luscious homemade hot donuts
that you have ever eaten.
(We tried to go last Saturday,
but kid you not... there were over 200
people standing in line. No joke.)

The line was not so long today
and now we know why everyone is raving about this place.
Good Lord.... these people know how to make a donut.
It's obscene.

After finishing at the U.S. passport office,
we headed to the beach for an early lunch.

North Avenue Beach pavillion with Castaways Bar and Grill for on the beach dining.

A volleyball court at North Avenue Beach.

The public schools are back in session,
so the beaches were practically empty at 11am.
It is 95 degrees here today
and extremely humid.

Belmont Harbor

The harbors were full of gorgeous boats.
Bikers and runners were dodging the suburban mom
with cell phone camera
taking blogging shots.

:)

My  18-year-old son would never let on
that I was embarrassing him ...
though my daughter would --- without hesitation!
Funny how that is.

A humid foggy view of the city from a harbor.

This is my darling son. I didn't get one good
shot of him today while we were out!
(You know boys... they hate it when you try to
photograph them.)

Here are some great shots
of Chicago from Pinterest.
Come visit soon!

Boating down the Chicago River. You can take a water taxi here now too.

"My kind of town, Chicago is .... my kind of town...."
It could be yours too!

  1. I'm definitely going to have to visit Chicago one of these days! Great pictures. Our friend John was there this summer and came home with lots of great pictures also. So far I've seen lots and lots of places I would like to explore. Thank your son for us, for not making you feel bad while you took your blogging pics. :) Very handsome young man!

  6. I love driving down Lake Shore Drive early in the morning and counting the joggers! Thousands of running people! I used to rollerblade there and play volletball on the beach in the "olden days" as Gracie says!
Your son, as you know, is very handsome..seems to be quite a gentleman as well!

  13. We love Chicago. It was my kids place of choice to go on their birthdays for an outing and dinner. My husband is down there 1-3 time a week on business. I love Michigan Ave. but I also adore all the little suburbs north along the lake with all their quant little shops. And by the way, your son is very good looking. A handsome young man!
