When I was little,
my family and I spent
many summers
in Cape May, NJ.
vacationing.

Have you ever been?
It is the oldest resort on the Atlantic Coast.
It's full of large old Victorian
homes that you can stay in.
Many are hotels or inns,
and some are bed and breakfast spots.
But that is not why I am posting
on this place.

I am posting on the rockers in Cape May.
While looking at porch furniture recently,
I kept running across photos of rockers.

They immediately brought me back
to the vacation spot of
my childhood where you see rows
of rockers in abundance
on many of the
large old wraparound porches.

Take a look at these photos.
You will see what I mean.

They are everywhere .... just lovely.
Takes you back to a simpler time
when it was commonplace
to sit back and relax
and rock away,
and rock away,
enjoying
the sights of the day
the sights of the day
and maybe a
seaside breeze.
seaside breeze.
It seems now that we are
always in such
a rush to
a rush to
get somewhere
or to do something.
or to do something.
No time for rocking. :(

Hope you find some time
this weekend
to sit back on a porch chair
or even better -- a rocker,
and enjoy your day!

All of these pics are stunning and I love to see all the rockers, so pretty. Hugs, Marty
Thanks for sharing these wonderful pictures. Very colourful homes.
I love rockers on a porch. There is nothing like it and especially in a Victorian type setting like you see here. Beautiful images- xo Diana
Cape May is a lovely place..but then you know that..LOL
We visited Cape May and the Cape May Zoo a couple of years ago, when we were at our son's house.
I think the zoo is rated #3 in the country...really nice.
Great photos of the porches and rocking chairs.
Never been ther but it looks like my kinda place. Love those purple shutters.
Looks and sounds like a wonderful place. If I were there I would certainly plop down in one of those rockers! What a sweet post.
Have a lovely weekend and be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

What a gorgeous place. I have never been there; looks like a place to keep in mind next time I am on the east coast.
looks wonderful! How I long for a covered porch! Have a great weekend =)
Love rocking on the front porch... thanks for sharing! xo
my family wore out a pair of white rockers just like these! i hated parting with them but they were dangerous from so much wear and tear. i love them and will replace them eventually!

Yes Alison, I have been to Cape May and agree that it is a charming spot. An iconic American summer vacation town. Sadly, many of us are always rushing around. I was just thinking of that this morning while drinking my coffee. We all need to slow down a bit and enjoy the moment. Have a great weekend!
Big Hugs,
Susan and Bentley
Cape May is on my 'to go to' list. One day. It looks charming. Nothing looks quite as welcoming as a rocker on the porch. Great pics.
A friend of mine told me that I needed to visit Cape May at Christmas time as they have beautiful decorations there...but it looks like I am going to head there really soon as I really love it just by seeing the photos...That is definitely my kind of place...I love rocking on porches of B&B's with coffee and gazing at the scenery..especially in the mountains....
Thanks so much for presenting the rockers and porches of Cape May...I am definitely going there!!!
I love the rockers! Can you believe I have lived in New Jersey my whole life and have never been to Cape May?!!! Now you have me motivated to check it out! Have a nice weekend!

Alison,
What a wonderful place. It must have been memorable to visit here throughout your childhood.
I really like the rocking chairs and they do invite you to relax...I need to relax. :-)

Love rockers!! Whats more relaxing on a perfect summer night than just hanging out on the porch with those you love. What fun!
Alison! I couldn't believe when I read your first sentence. My Grandmother took us to cape May every year for 2 weeks for vacation. We stayed at what is now the Inn of Cape May!!! It was a GRAND hotel back then with waiters in tuxedo jackets!!! We sat on those rockers for MANY years!!!! Just last year my sister and I went back, toured around the Inn and took some pics. And, played skee ball on the boardwalk just like we did as kids. You ahve MADE MY DAY with this post!!!!!! XO, Pinky
Alison, I've just returned from visiting my cousin's bay house on the Gulf Coast. Such fun! No rockers on the big wide porches that look out to the water, but plenty of time to kick back and relax. Love seeing these photos. I'm going to check out Cape May.
Yes indeed, I have spent a good many happy moments in Cape May, taking the ferry across for Lewes.
Love it.
I love the romanticism of rockers on a porch. I've actually been stalking a real estate listing not far from my parents' home in large part because of it's big inviting looking front porch. I can just imagine a row of rockers on it. Great pics! Thanks for sharing.
All the rockers remind me of the airport in Atlanta. Scattered throughout in rows to pass the time.

Alison, those pictures are wonderful. They do bring back memories. In my youth, we would drive from Atlanta to St Simons Island for lazy days on the porch and in the sun. We would also take day trips to Jekyll Island and relax on the porch of what is now called Jekyll Island Club. Those days the only way to Jekyll was by ferry.
In recent years we have vacationed at The Grand on Mackinac Island, Michigan. Talk about a porch and rockers. Wow, rocker heaven.
We have four big rockers and a swing on our front porch. Bob spends a lot of time there. He smokes on the porch and I often sit with him. We are talking about several times a day.
Thanks for the memories and "rock on".
Ginger
