Remember this antique
Burlington Basket
that I shared
with you last summer?
Well it is always being useful,
helping me gather things
to take to
dinner at a friend's house,
to a picnic,
or even to take "smalls"
to the shop.
Patented in 1902 and called a "Refrigerator Basket". |
The inside is galvanized and the lift off top is hinged. |
For hundreds of years
baskets have been gathering
all kinds of things.

This is an antique Cherokee basket. I wonder what they gathered in this? Link |
Wow,
after looking at
all of these
awesome
baskets
it makes me wish
we could all just ditch
the plastic and paper bags
we now use to
"gather"
and go back
to the simple
beautiful
natural
handmade
artful
basket.
What do you think?
Want to start a new trend with me?

Love the first basket. We have one very similar. I got to have an artichoke basket. They look awesome.
I love all the baskets, I have a soft spot for them! I gave away some years ago and lately, cause of my lack of space for them, they need lots of space. Loving the 1902 one! How've you been pretty friend? I'm back from staying almost a month with my grandgirls..anyway, I'm back home and wishing you and your family a very happy Dad's Day weekend.
Hugs,
FABBY
Beautiful baskets. I'm with you there. Get rid of all the plastic bags and lets start using the baskets.
I love all the baskets. I have a grape harvester basket that belonged to my grandmother. I never knew what it was. The handle has it's original green paint on it-the rest of the basket is natural. Thanks for the basket lesson & photos. xo Diana
These baskets are ALL amazing...love the look of old vintage baskets, they make amazing accessories to decorate with and around.
I have never seen a galvanized basket? That is a wonderful piece. The oldest one I have is an egg basket that belonged to my Great Grandma and I remember my Grandma kept rags in it in the garage. Love the patina on the wood handle.
These are all wonderful. Baskets never seem to loose their appeal...and usefulness. Some of these I have never seen before, such as you lined one ~ very interesting. Thank you.
w.a.n.t.!!!!
The first basket made me swoon! I collect baskets like this but have never seen one lined like yours. Baskets are something you never can have enough of...great for storage, a picnic in the park or an evening at Ravinia! Thank you for sharing yours. Love, Penny
My fav is the one with the galvanized interior. I would need 4 of that kind for keeping my perishables cool on the return trip from gathering groceries.

Alison,
I'd love to think we could all use baskets for our groceries...I buy too much at one time but it would be fun to try...I'm in. The fish basket and the French artichoke basket are my favorites.

Beautiful baskets, Alison! I have been buying baskets myself lately...so many lovely styles out there!
Baskets are so cool. I would use for small item shopping maybe, but most grocery shopping would damage them and they would also be too bulky to lug around through the store.
Check out the pine needle baskets here: http://www.gate.net/~lynnvc/mybsktpg.htm

That first basket is a beauty. I'm all for getting rid of plastic bags.
Me too! I love all of these baskets... I'm always on the lookout for antique baskets. They are beautiful and so useful.
Any suggestions how to clean wicker? I have Pottery Barn wicker chargers that have been in storage and smell musty.
