New Treasures Found

Hello there!
Notice anything different?

How about now?

Found this great old
hand-painted tole tray last weekend.
Loved the unusual shape of it.

Paired it with my grandmother's old candlesticks
and a Staffordshire piece that I found years ago.

It's fun to change
things out and make room
for new finds, right?

Then I found this
wonderful old
antique paisley throw.

Yummy colors.

Wish I knew more about old paisleys.
Have always loved the amoeba-shaped pattern
which I just learned is also referred to
as "Welsh pears" and "Persian pickles"!

Though I have several wool paisley throws,
not one of them is remotely close
to this oldie but goodie.
The ones that I have
are light-weight and reversible,
and I have used them as shawls
and tablecloths too. They are not old.

But this one is very different.
It is extremely heavy and
you can see the weaver's threads loose
on the backside of the piece.
It measures roughly 6 ft  x 6 ft".
The borders were woven
and added separately - - corners mitered,
edges frayed fringe.

I bought it thinking I might
make it into pillows,
but when it came back from the cleaners today,
I realized I don't have the
heart to cut it!

The center has been meticulously
 replaced because it's so old
that through the years of folding,
the center split beyond repair and was replaced.
(So the dealer I bought it from told me!?)

Do you know anything
about dating antique paisley throws?

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks for popping by today.
Have you found any treasures lately?
:)

Delores at Vignette Design might be able to help you. She loves paisleys also and may have some knowledge. I am NO help:) Yours is beautiful! I wouldn't be able to cut it either. XO, Pinky

The tole tray is beautiful there. I know nothing of vintage paisleys but you are brave to have it dry cleaned. Just drape it over something and it will add texture-I know you know how to do it. BTW I made your pesto dip twice this weekend and my people ate it up. Thanks again for that, olive

Check with Delores @ Vignette Design. She recently did a post on paisley pieces. I bet she could give you some information. ~ Sarah

The tole tray is certainly striking -a touch of simple sophistication above your stove.

The vintage paisley is lovely. (Seems I recently saw another post about paisleys.) I have a lot to learn. Never stopped to think there would be pattern names--but of course there would be! Hope you find out more. I'm looking forward to seeing where it "lands" in your home.

Alison your kitchen is beautiful, and the tray has found a perfect home. I often find things I think I want to cut up to make something else, but I rarely do. I can't seem to make that first cut. Beautiful finds for your beautiful home, love, Penny

I was antiquing with two dear friends on Saturday and I came across a vintage paisley throw that very much resembles the one you found, even the colors were similar. I believe I just read something on Vignette Design about vintage paisley. The tray, Staffordshire and your grandmother's candlesticks look great in your lovely kitchen.

Hi Alison,
You have a gorgeous paisley! It does look like it is handmade. Hard to tell how old it is. It has been repaired, which in my mind means it was well taken care of. The center doesn't look original and I'm not sure about the seams on the corners. It doesn't matter at all. I have some that are mint and some that are in shambles. I just love the texture and color of them. I bet you will probably be on the hunt for more of these now! Good luck and happy hunting. ~Delores
PS: Love your gorgeous kitchen!
