Here is a question
for all of you
creative and inspirational
bloggers out there
who turn me upside down
regularly with your
amazing ideas and vignettes.
What do you put on
your dining room table
when you are not entertaining?
When it's May, for instance,
and no holiday in sight....
what is sitting on your table?
A silk floral arrangement perhaps? |
A small collection of ..... ? Lanterns? |
I would love to know.
A grouping of pleasing objects? |
Fresh flowers to add sweet scents to the room? |
Come on... spill the beans! Tell me! |
(Thank you Pinterest for all these lovely images.)

In my dining room I have a large ceramic rooster and some nice looking faux plants in French style pots. On my kitchen table a large glass bottle and sometimes a pedastal full of fruit. I wish I could have fresh flowers on my table all the time!
I usually have some sort of silk arrangement on my dining table, when it's not a holiday. I do lots of tablescapes so it gets changed out a lot!
If ever money was no worry, I'd splurge on fresh flowers and have them in the house, everyday!

I have an antique urn filled with green apples. I need something easy to move because I use the table for projects on a regular basis. I dream of fresh flowers in every room of the house.....

Sadly, my dining room table seems to be the place for all things without a home. Laptop, portable DVD player, kids' homework, my son's science kit (sitting there right now). If I had my druthers, it would always display some incredibly shabby chic vintage tabletop decor, changing with the seasons and holidays. Who knows, maybe when the last one's off to college (11 years from now!) I might get my wish lol!

Beautiful inspiration images, Alison.
I have a large deceorative Lenox bowl, in ivory, that sits in the center of the dining room table, most often. The farmhouse table in the breakfast room is usually decorated with "projects".
Hi Alison...well I cannot speak for right this minute, because boxes awaitiny my move have been gracing THIS table but normally I have a beautiful planter that I change the plants on every few months (normally orchids) and two gorgeous crsytal candleabras my mom gave me for Christmas a few years ago. Cannot wait to have to start thinking about "such problems
when I move:) Never though I would hear myself say that:)
Oh, Alison, it changes all the time! Right now, though, I have a turquoise and green speckled soup tureen my mother gave to me. She made it in a ceramics class she took in 1969. It was the inspiration piece I used to decorate my entire living room and dining room and two paintings I did for my entryway!

Let's seeee ... at this very moment, my table tops have been turned into packing and unpacking areas for my Fall decor (which is disappearing) and Christmas (which I'm now adding in). So, I have a big ol' mess right now ... I'll check back in a week. ;)
In this small house, we use our dining table everyday, so the look is usually casual. I keep some woven placemats on the table (great texture!) along with two tall glass candle holders. A cute salt and pepper set is usually on the table along with a small antique glass that holds toothpicks. Yeah, I know, gross, but I got tired of explaining where they were!
As we speak I have a wooden carving board inside a reticulated silver tray. On top of the wooden board I have a mercury vessel with pheasant feathers, a vintage silver covered butter server, a small collection of silver demitasse spoons and one white ceramic turkey candle holder with an ivory candle. Kind of a study in in neutrals you could say~
If it is not a holiday season, I usually have fresh flowers on the dining room table. My kitchen table usually has some sort of candle grouping.
Like everyone else, I dream of fresh flowers. But at the moment, I have a bowl of fruit on my table. It's fresh and worth the money b/c we eat it.
We use our dining room table for every meal as we don't have a table in our kitchen. I always have a runner or vintage cloth on the dining table with something on it depending on the season. Usually it's a pitcher with real or artificial flowers sitting on an antique platter. I often have candles in holders. I change the centerpiece with the seasons and will soon be getting Christmas decor out. I love changing it up!
My dining room table has an oversized glass bottle flanked by shed antlers sitting on a burlap runner. I always choose something tall to go in the middle of my table (when not entertaining) so it can be seen over the tall chairs that sit around it. My kitchen table has a cement urn filled with faux hydrangeas and curly willow.
YIKES!!! Blogger has eaten my comment so I'll try again. In between holidays I have a beautiful runner that has oriental letters on it and an arrangement I made flanked by 2 candles. Sometimes I trade out the arrangement for a grouping of blue and white jars. Great question!!! XO, Pinky
Dust mostly...and three altar candlesticks!
Lovely post...as usual!

I have candle holders and urns with succulents but I have to remember to take the succulents into the sun every now and then. Love the table in your first picture! x Sharon
I always have this big, over the top, over sized, silver epergne with 3 large bowls and a hunting dog at the base. I fill the bowls with various things, right now there is small pumpkins, sometimes wax fruit. Christmas I will pile ornaments and holly. It works for M Old Historic House. Thanks, Richard
We eat in our dining room most nights, so I like to keep the table set at all times. There is usually a tablecloth, place settings, and some type of seasonal vignette on the table.
Interesting question, Alison. I change what's on our dining room table frequently. At the moment we have a large Courtley Check oval tray from MacKenzie-Childs. I put our large paper mache French rooster and hen on the tray. ~ Sarah
If I told you Gracie had found her way to be the centerpiece of the table, would you believe me? It doesn't happen often, but it does happen! Usually, a big wooden bowel of fresh fruit is on the table.
Such inspiring pictures Alison. In our new home I went with more solid fabrics for my living room and dining room. I do have a quail subtle print in my downstairs manly family room. I tend to like pattern more in the kitchen and bedrooms (sometimes). The more i think about it I would have to say I'd rather have my pattern in throw pillows or perhaps one great chair for a big statement.
Since I am a silk floral designer I usually have someone else's arrangement sitting on my dining room table! Is that cheating? LOL! Fun to read what others say.
Donna
I have a silk arrangement in spring and summer. But do candles and things like that in fall and winter.
Groups of objects...often grounded by a set of three chunkyish candleholders. I use a piece of fabric under these groups...kinda' scrunched up.....paisleys, plaids. handwovens..you name it... I change my centerpiece quite regularly as the moods strikes :^)
Thanks for all of the good ideas!
