How well do you treat your windows?

When you are dressing a window...
do you prefer to go with a solid neutral
fabric that you won't soon tire of....

OR

do you have a tendency to go with a big
bold statement with a
fabric that makes
quite a statement in the room?

Bathroom window treatment?
I do love this pattern!

Like the window treatment.

Do you change your window treatments often?
Or do you dress a window and leave it ... forever?!

Maybe you use a bold pattern in your dining room,
but more of a plain statement in your family room?

Please enlighten me
on your window dressing style.

Oh Lord, my window dressing style is horrible!!!! When we built this house I bought vertical blinds for alot of the widows and we also have 8 sets of sliding glass dorrs! I did use drapes in the dining room (plain cream color) and we have Green drapes in our master that HAVE to go. I would LOVE to replace every single window treatment............ Sorry, you asked:):):) XO, Pinky

I have used both, solid neutrals and bold patterns depending on my decor. Right now I am more of a solid neutral kind of girl. I think the trend lately has been "going green" and more people are going with neutrals and natural fiber type window dressings.

In our small house, I love our plantation shutters - they are so functional, plus take up little visual or actual space. However, I love fabric and often pine for some beautiful curtains. Sally

I'm kind of embarrassed to say I don't do much with my windows. Hopefully that will change. So much to do and so little time!

I guess it depends on the room and what else is going on, Alison. I have more of a statement drapery in the living room, but that's because the walls are neutral and the slipcovers are white. In the master I have a pattern but I think it's subtle and soft. I am planning a fun, bold drapery for the guest bedroom and I'm going to attempt a two pattern treatment in our new sunroom.

Such gorgeous images. I love solids, but buffalo checks make me weak knee-ed!

I prefer solid neutral color drapes that aren't fussy. I used to have more elaborate drapes with tassels and patterns and lots of color when I had a more country french decor, but now I like the simple look. I love shutters too, although I don't have any. If I didn't have drapes that is what I would choose.

I dress them a bit bold. Once dressed they stay that way for a loooong time because it is so expensive...can't change them out too often!

I like to use both Alison. I have a colorful ck in my dining room that I love and still haven't grown tired of them. That's a first for me LOL! Martina

my windows are all na-kid... no drapes on any windows.

I have used patterns but not big and bold, more subtle ones and when I have used solids I like to use a beautiful embellished tape or trim to dress it up. I get dizzy just thinking about doing an entire house of window treatments again so am taking it one day at a time, one room at a time. Beautiful examples!!

Since window treatments are what I do for business I am lucky I can change things out at less cost~however I will say ALL of my patterned fabric draperies have been taken down and sold on my Etsy store and now I have plain fabrics. Specifically white cotton or voile panels with smocking detail. Oh, there is one exception, I have pink and green toile draperies in my home office that have tassels...but I imagine they might be getting changed out too. My bedroom has pretty porcelain blue silk panels.

Alison,
I am kind of the big, bold type of gal. I love color at the windows, but I do like them open in the day, so I usually opt for a valance and a shade of some sort for night. I am having some new blue gingham made for the dining room and an equestrian print for the new den.

So hard to choose. Love both options!

While I love both options, my window treatments tend to all be patterned. Once they're made, they stay up for a good long time because 1. they usually cost a ton of $ for the fabric, and 2. I usually make them myself and slave for days to do so =)

Hi Alison! I prefer simple and neutral. My curtains are Sheer, white, and full of ruffles bought at Target. I love them!

Omg I needed this post!! A couple of weeks ago I ripped down my window treatments... aka the big silky blob in the room!!! Now my living room windows are naked and I have no clue what I'm going to do. Right now I kinda like it the light that comes in is amazing and you can see how pretty the windows are. Ugh thanks to your post I have some eye candy to get me motivated.

Love all the photos! I do both. Right now I am on the fence about my living room so it's bare at the moment. But I used a bold floral pattern in the dining room. I like change.

For me it depends on the room. Some rooms we have plantation shutters and panels in others. I tend to stay pretty neutral and plain because I don't want to change them for awhile - and my husband doesn't want to spend the money!

I prefer silk panels. Most of mine are neutral; but, I did a deep persimmon red in my family room. (You can catch a glimpse of them in today's post.) I just leave them until I see something I like more, or until my color scheme changes.

When we moved into our small cottage, I put up the Pottery Barn Linen Grommet panels in most of the rooms. I went with the grommets because I knew they would be easy to open and close. I have some custom window treatments that I use in our office, and I'm getting ready to change what I have in our guest room to something more neutral (probably more PB panels!)

I tend to use plaids or simple fabrics in jewel tone fabrics. In the bedrooms, I usually use off white fabrics with texture.
Since I do my own fabrication of window treatments, I do change them pretty regularly.
Thanks for asking!

Aside from their aesthetic effect, window treatments can also be an additional security feature in our home. For one, window treatments can obscure the view from the outside, serving to help preserve our privacy. Window treatments would prevent burglars from easily breaking in through our windows.
