My heart breaks
for the wild animals
that had to be put down this week
because of one man's
reckless behavior.
These beautiful creatures
had no business being caged up
for one man's pleasure
only to be set free to their own
demise which he certainly would
have realized in his last moments.
Such a shame.
What do you think about
what happened in
Zanesville, Ohio
this week?
My favorite animals. |
I know they had to do what they did to protect the people in the area..... it's just very tragic. |

Like you I have been saddened by the lost of these wonderful creatures. So tragic and so innocent on their part. A terrible shame.
That was unreal! I couldn't believe it....his carelessness and selfish acts put a town in danger and thus put these innocent animals to death. It was a tragedy all the way around.
"Tragic" pretty well sums it up. The end result of selfishness, despair and hopelessness...
Such a sad situation. I feel horrible for the town and all of the people whos lives were put in danger and I am sad these beautiful creatures had to be put down. I am also sad for the man who felt like the only way out of his life was to commit suicide.
Hope you have a great day!
I saw this on our news and thought it is such a tragedy for all. I was sorry to hear that these animals were kept in a private 'zoo' and that the owner had just given up and ended it all. So sad that the animals had to be put down but I understand the safety concerns for the public. A tragic waste!
It has broken my heart!! Truly! This man had recently gotten out of prison....who took care of these animals while he was IN prison?? I know the authorities did what they had to do...but I so wish they could have saved more than they did...I can't imagine what those poor animals went through....I have just mourned over this :(
I hope the laws change and lessons have been learned....

I agree with you! They should not have been caged for one man's pleasure. The whole thing is disturbing!
Tragedy for those poor animals.
Pretty unbelieveable and so very sad. I'm still baffled that that many exotic animals were living in Ohio?
I can't believe it was legal for this man to have this sort of 'zoo'. Something bad was doomed to happen. I am so sad over the loss of these beautiful animals. They had no right to be locked up in the first place.
A blogger that lived just a few miles from this wrote about how terrified she was until all the animals were killed. I guess there are two sides to this.
XO,
Jane
It was a sad sight to see all these beautiful animals lying in a heap, and the residents fearing for their lives. I sincerely wish they would crack down on reckless individuals like this. The laws need to be much tighter.
My heart breaks for these beautiful creatures Alison! This is all so upsetting!! Martina
I think this was a terrible tragedy, that could have been avoided if there were better laws in place. This person was obviously a very trouble man. He shouldn't have ever been allowed to keep all those endangered and potentially dangerous animals on his property. What a selfish and tragic choice he made!
I feel nauseous just
thinking of the fear
those mistreated
animals felt in their
final moments. A
tragic situation all
around!!!

I agree. You would think that if he really cared about the animals then he wouldn't have done what he did.
It makes me sick- I only wish we had laws in this country that would demand that man to spend the rest of his days in a cage. Why is it we always force lovely creatures into totally abnormal situations and then when something like this happens our reaction is to just kill them? I sometimes wonder ..who is the more advanced species....
It's just tragic. I was surprised to hear that they weren't using tranquilizers. Just horrific.
This was so sad. I think the animal laws desperately need to be changed in Ohio. They are God's creatures and need to be protected. Of course they were just doing what comes naturally to them and they were afraid, and I know for the protection of humans some had to be put down. I am glad they managed to save some of them.
Alison when I first heard this on the news I was stunned. How tragic for these most wondrous creatures of God. So sad.

Tragic! It's makes me extremely sad to think about this. Beautiful post, Alison.
Awful, just awful. I couldn't even watch the news. Same thing is going on with puppy mills across the country. Just add greed to selfishness and hopelessness. Puppy mills supply pet stores. I won't buy from pet stores that sell puppies.
It is such a tragedy! I think he was totally selfish to do this as his final act. I know they had to protect the people, it is just so sad. They need to change the lenient laws in the state so that people can't have these gorgeous WILD animals as pets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!XO, Pinky
Alison, I am such an animal lover that I can't stand to even hear the stories. I know what happened but now when it comes on tv, I have to change the station. It's AWFUL what happened!!!
:( *sadface* ANd I thought that maybe Jack Hannah could save them!
That really bothered me too. Such a sad situation!

It makes me very sad that life gets so complicated that we feel we have no where to turn. Sorry that those beautiful animals had to die.
Patti
ooops, knew nothing ...
my head was stuck in a paintbucket
sad though!

Heartless and cruel on that awful man's part. At least a few of the animals were still in the house and taken to the zoo, where they will be taken care of.
I was in your neck of the woods with the tennis girls. We saw the old guys play tennis at The United Center. Fun!
I live only a few hours from Zanesville and one of my coworkers does live in that town. I tried not to listen as everyone talked about it at work because it made me so sad and mad. I think what made me so mad was how it was handled. Jack Hanna, from the Columbus Zoo, would have had a team down there in no time at all to tranquilize and save those animals if the local authorities would have been more patient. The owner of the animals was certainly at fault, but so are those who senselessly shot them.

Alison this story made me very sad. I adore all animals and could not believe what a sad ending it had for all of those involved. Sigh.
Warmly, ~Melissa
I live in Cleveland, Ohio, about 2 hours north of where this happened. No "animal lover" would ever keep animals such as those in captivity. This was a sick man, selfish and egocentric. The authorities were sickened by what they had to do, but I truly believe they had no choice. Night was coming (the first report of wild animals loose was not received by the police until 5:00 pm) and it was pouring with rain at that time, making it already darker. You can be sure the antiquated laws in Ohio that govern this sort of thing will be changing - Ohio citizens will make sure of that ! It truly is tragic, the selfish act of a very sick man.....my heart goes out to those law enforcement officers that had no choice but to do what they had to do.......
Truly heartbreaking. Made me cry. It's always animals and children that suffer in the end.
Sorry, I had to add this.....Cindy of Custom Comforts, with all due respect, what if the authorities had waited for a team from the Columbus Zoo to arrive - by then it would have been dark, and the animals would have been loose for over 2 - 3 hours. How would you alert all the residents in this rural area ? What if a child or adult had been killed ? If you listen to the news, Jack Hanna of the Columbus Zoo, completely supported what had to be done. Believe me, I am an animal lover, but the only person to blame here is the owner that kept these animals. Do you think he didn't know what would happen when he let them loose ? What if the authorities "had been patient" and the animals made it to Columbus, a few hours away ? What then ?
