spring is
slowly
dragging her way
into the Midwest....
like a turtle.
So why do I feel like I am living
in a pig sty?
BECAUSE I HAVE TWO BIG DOGS!
Oh my gosh.
The dirt, the paw prints,
I can't mop enough.
I can't sweep enough.
I can't wipe them down enough.
Geeeeez.
Every time they go out they have to be wiped down and dried off and even so, there is always a mess. Everywhere. |
We usually let the girls lay on the sofas
(I can hear the shrieks of horror,
I know, it's bad -- but I cannot lie.)
They are "people"
and in our family,
the people sit on the furniture.
So everything is tarped
with tartan throws and sheets
until we get through
the soggy boggy yard phase.
So everything is tarped
with tartan throws and sheets

the soggy boggy yard phase.
This morning, Cada,
the black lab went out to
"do her business"
and she apparently,
(I say apparently because I was
sound asleep and did not even
realize she had gone out),
she decided to run into the house
and up the stairs
and into our bed to say hi.
A big old MUDDY
filthy footed
hi.
CADA!!!!!!!
NOOOOOooooOOO!
As disgusting as it is,
I am boldly going where no one has gone
to show you my disgusting
mud riddled sheets
mud riddled sheets
before I whipped them off
and into
the washer.
Good grief.
Lots of puddles out there
and the yard
Springtime.
It's a love/hate thing
when we go through this period
but seeing green helps to dilute
my seeing red
when these sweet
waggy-tailed people come
running in the doorway with smiles
and big old puppy kisses
Gotta love 'em.
God save the house.
Hallie tootsies. :) |
Oh do I relate here! We have two yellow labs, and though it has been dry here, they still manage to bring it in.....

I m laughing with you. We have Vic, a chocolate lab person. The youngest kid, he's going to be 4 in 2 months. A wild child that like tours think it's so much fun to give wet messy hellos. We have hardwood floors and dark area rugs in most of the house. :)
ReplyDeleteBut they are soooo worth it! Gotta luv 'em.
HUGS, Gee
we're laughing with you, not at you...well, maybe a little. Loved that you are brave enough to show the mess they made.
ReplyDeleteOh God We have two Boxe Lala & Bella imagen is raining here in Miami we love there mess all over in our home but they part of The family so I clean all the time.
ReplyDeleteXOX
Happy Easter!!!!!

Awwww, they are part of the family aren't they! I just keep cleaning up after them...
ReplyDeleteoooh, they're just adorable, but that's one of the reasons I have cats. I just have to clean up hairball barf...
ReplyDeleteToo funny! We've been doing a lot of paw wiping too.
ReplyDeleteWe are going through the same thing, too. Do your dogs swipe their front and back paws on the grass after they "go"? Mine do and that's when I know the mud is coming in with them!! Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
This is my life too! We have THREE labs and are currently sifting through black tumbleweeds on the kitchen floor from all of their shedding!!! I too hate the muddy season. And of course, it's perfectly fine to allow your babies to get on the sofa!! I invite you to check out my dawgs' blog at www.asthedawgsbark.blogspot.com where they tell their own crazy stories!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you can laugh about it ! It is a lot of hard work - but, as you said - they are part of the family too ! I recently lost our 12 year old yellow lab, Bo, and just wish I could see those muddy prints just one more time.....Enjoy them every minute !!
ReplyDeleteHi Alison, Gotta laugh! Goodness our sweet pets, especially big dogs take a lot of work. My Kitchen floor needs to be refinished because of deep scratches from big paws. Out sweet Bentley (Springer Spaniel) would slide around the island at full speed. I almost don’t won’t to remove them because he’s no longer with us. They are worth all of it!
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter and Spring.........
Emily
They are worth every trip to vacuum or wash linens, but I know what you mean. When you've just cleaned is usually when our big dog comes in with wet paws and if you have dressed for work...well, that's when she wants you to love her and if you don't she'll put her paw up on your leg. Mud and all. :-) I thought everyone let their pets up on the furniture. I do, they make room for me so that is all I care about.
ReplyDeletexo,
karen
Oh Alyson, you cracked me up! I know very well what you mean, as when we had our 'small pug' he was the owner of this house, scratched and chewed on all our furniture's legs, slept in the living room's silk upholstery, made a mess of it and which I had to redo after he died, lol!
ReplyDeleteOh hon...you do have a lot of work to do, lol!
Have a very happy Ester!

Our pets are like our children,I get it. Now here is a story for ya: we got hime today from our "vacation" if you can call it that. My neighbor, who wasd coming in to water my plants, CLEANED MY FLOORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i COULDN'T BELIEVE MY EYES BUT AS SOON AS WE WALKED IN THE HOUSE i COULD TELL CAUSE THEY HAVE never BEEN THIS SHINY AND BEAUTIFUL!!!! I am hiring her:):) So, Maybe she does sheets too:):):)
ReplyDeleteLove the story and I can totally relate. Thanks for sharing the true nitty gritty dirty details of life we all experience!
ReplyDeleteKathy at eclecticallydesigned.com
I can so relate. Seems like all you do is wipe paws this tinme of year. But they are so worth it, right? Happy Easter! xoKathy
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh with you Alison as we had a dog and went through the same thing. Mud season was so awful and so were rainy days. Winter here was the best as the snow was clean. :) I had an old towel we used to wipe the paws and somedays he would be taken to the basement to have his feet washed, which he hated. I miss the old dog but not the dirt and mud and hair. Happy Easter to you! Pam
ReplyDeleteI can relate. We finally gave in and bought a professional full size carpet cleaner.. the puppy is one mess after another! :)
ReplyDeleteI remember how dirty dogs can be through winter. And they always leave proof of their living in the home. It is a chore to keep things cleaned up!!
ReplyDeleteOh I feel so much better! Yes, it is mud season here too and my sweet yellow lab Holly, comes in with mud up to her knees and elbows! I even set a bowl of water in the garage to dip her paws in, if I can catch her before she runs through the house! Lots of muddy towels in the washer too! As much as I hate the soggy yard, I have to remind myself I am so glad I have hardwood floors. Much easier to clean!
ReplyDeleteOh the joy of dogs at play and not knowing that they have left their mark of "innocence"...and how you cannot get the least bit angry when they look at you with those "unconditional loving" eyes....Those eyes always gets me!...There are "tracks" of pollen in this household!
ReplyDeleteSadie isn't as big as your dogs, and she doesn't go in and out on her own, but it is a constant battle to keep the floors clean. Her little paw prints on the hard wood floors are a constant battle as is the mess from the oak trees that she drags in on her fur.
ReplyDeleteBut we love having this girl in our lives!
Oh bummer! I would be tempted to roll up the carpets for a few weeks. I'm glad we have cats - they do shed but for the most part they are mess free!
ReplyDeletehaaaaaa! you took pics of your sheets! wow those pups are gonna drive you to insanity this spring!
ReplyDeletehappy easter, a.
