Two weekends ago, my mother and I
went to Burlington,Vermont
to visit my daughter at college.
Have you been to the area?
(It takes your breath away.... stunning.)

While there I took my mother to see
Shelburne Farm
-- a stunning 1,400 acre
historic farm built in 1886
by Dr. William Seward and his wife,
Lila Vanderbuilt Web.
Their original farm was created as a model
agricultural estate sitting on 3,800 acres
along the shoreline of
Lake Champlain, Vermont.

Frederick Law Olmstead Sr. was the landscape architect
for the grounds and Robert H. Robertson was the architect
of the residence and four major barns.
The estate is now a non-profit working farm
that provides conservation education
to students and the community in
which it resides. In 2001 it became
a National Historic Landmark ... and rightly so!
The property has a main estate house
(now an inn where you can stay)
and several barns --- the main one ---
my favorite, I know, shocking right?
:)

These photos do not do it justice.
It is simply breath-taking ---
with the shoreline of Lake Champlain,
the Green Mountains of Vermont,
and the Adirondack mountains across the lake
all add up to make this place
simply heavenly!

Have you been to this wonderful place?
If not, make it a point to see it someday.
You will not be sorry!

UPDATE on the
FEEDBURNER ISSUES
A couple posts ago I commented on my
frustrations with Blogger's Feedburner
and that it was not delivering emailed posts
to my subscribers. Well, I am happy to say that
the problem was resolved!
Apparently, Feedburner was abandoned by Blogger
and thank goodness, a fellow blogger out there
shared this with her readers which I happened to stumble
upon through a web search. Thank you, Jane Friedman wherever you are! Here is the link to her post in case it helps you as well. LINK
I decided to upload BlogLovin' and they picked up the slack
and automatically resumed the email list my blog had and
they are now sending the emailed posts to my subscribers.
THANK YOU BLOGLOVIN' !!!

Un lieu extraordinaire... une belle invitation.

ReplyDeleteAs an aside, it must be really rough to have your beautiful daughter so far away from you?!

ReplyDeleteAlison, I have been to the Inn and the Farms and they are both magnificent!!!!! The first time I was very pregnant--and it was 100 degrees--so I plopped into that gorgeous lake and floated in the ice cold water. That kid became an NCAA champion swimmer! I'm so excited--I'm heading back there next week with my Mom. Thanks for the gorgeous photos. Linda
ReplyDeleteI have not been to Vermont but these phots make me want to book a trip today! I love it
ReplyDeleteone of my favorite trips in the whole world!
ReplyDeleteHi Alison,
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness; I lived just 3 miles from Shelburne Farms and just a little over 3 years ago, my husband and I moved to the Austin, TX area to be near twin grandbabies. I'm a graduate of Champlain College and my son graduated from UVM. We miss Vermont terribly, but are fortunate that we have a lake cottage on beautiful Lake Dunmore, 7 miles south of Middlebury. I was thrilled to see your post and photos. Isn't it just breathtakingly beautiful! Thanks for sharing ~ . Nan
ahhhhh the sweet dairy cows. aren't they spectacular? never visited this area, and how wonderful you have the best excuse now!

Stunning photos, Alison! We love going to Vermont and spend most of our time in the Killington area (south of where you were). I have to make a trip up to Shelburne one of these days - so beautiful! Enjoy your weekend!

Gorgeous photos, Alison!!
ReplyDeleteHi Alison,
ReplyDeleteSo nice to meet you!
Vermont is definitely one of the world's beautiful places, for its pretty pastoral landscapes, wildlife and charming homes and gardens. I hope to see it in person one day and regret not doing so when I was in the New England states over 26 years ago on a trip to Rhode Island!
Thanks for your lovely comment on my guest post at Kim's on Friday!
