Hello friends!

Do you attend designer showcase
home tours in your area?
Or do you frequent Pinterest?

Decorating with Hermes boxes - always a good idea.
lacqueredlife.com

If you can answer yes to either of these questions,
you may have seen stacks of
those famous glorious orange boxes
being used in home decor.

May I ask you,
what do you
think about it?

The times I have seen it in person --
it has brought about
much commentary
among tour attendees.

In a closet?
Absolutely -- you would not want to throw away
an orange box or a pale aqua box,
for sure!

But do you think they should be collected
and displayed in common rooms?

Chairs by Schumacher line an upstairs corridor; the light fixtures are custom made, and the wallcovering is by Élitis.

What do you think about it?
Are you a fan or not?
I'm curious, tell me.

  2. Not a fan of orange boxes, but they DO "plant" an idea.... I have splashes of the color orange in our house. I find it surprisingly warm & invigorating. I especially like it paired with turquoise!

  3. I would hope they were just for display purposes in show homes. In a real home, it would be the equivalent of leaving the tag on a piece of furniture to let everyone know where you bought it.

Now like you said, for closet storage, very cute idea. I have my little robin-egg-blue boxes in my dressing room holding trinkets galore! (But never on the coffee table!).
    Lovely images, as always!

  4. Alison,
I like the splash of color, but I agree with you and your reader, they belong in a closet or personal space. My boxes to save as trinket storage are the Jo Malone boxes, but not as a decorative accessory.

  5. I love the idea of using them for "hidden" storage...like in a closet or on covered shelving. They would be great Fall props, too...everyday? for me? Not so much- xo Diana

  7. Alison, I'm chiming in with others. Doesn't seem tasteful to have them on display in public spaces. I would definitely keep them and use them within a closet. They make great storage boxes. I've saved my MacKenzie Childs boxes because they are beautiful and classic, but use them for storing things in a closet. If I had an Hermes box, it would definitely be one I kept. They too are beautifully made and classic. Used for display in a home would make me think of a store display, not a personal treasure.
    Love the color regardless!

  9. Not a fan Alison, I can see keeping them in ones closet along with the Tiffany Blue, otherwise, why does someone need to show off. (IMHO)

  11. What?? I've not seen this but then, I don't get around much. :) I think it looks silly. An aqua box for storage? Maybe. But in a closet.

  12. Definitely a fan and this post is perfect timing as I am considering a gallery wall in my lower level.

Also tagged you in my current post, you might want to stop by:)

  13. My orange boxes are in my closet. Although I love to wear what came in them, I don't like to see the boxes displayed.

  14. I just looked on Ebay and discovered that empty Hermes boxes are for sale. Sorry, but they're not for me. Now Neimans boxes - that's a different story! (Just kidding.) The term "nouveau riche" comes to mind when I see these displays...

  15. No ambivalence here....one does not need the
box to inform what should already be evident in one's taste.....
That color, for whatever reason, does not seem to add punch...or is
one asking too much of orange?

  16. I am NOT a fan of any sort of unmarked box unless it is a beautiful wooden box :^)
I have to admit that I like a touch of orange in some rooms, but not as an empty box!
Thanks for asking and have a great weekend.
    Be blessed,
    J
