Kitchen Hutches

Always rearranging what's on our hutch.

Let's talk about hutches today!

Hutches
can be a great focal point in your kitchen
bringing special attention
to some of your favorite pieces
and collections.

Not only are they completely utilitarian
and provide fantastic storage opportunities --
they add a back drop and dimension
to a room especially when they are large.
Don't be afraid to use the tall massive pieces
in your room.
If you have the wall space - fill it.

Drama is good.

Some hutches are carved and dressy --
while others are plain and simple.
Find a cabinet that works with your
own personal style and decor.
Millions of options out there.

I pulled a collection of images together
to share with you on this subject
showcasing many styles and finishes,
some old and some new.

Which one or ones
appeal to you?

New custom version from BHG Magazine.

Very pretty, but I would be nervous about there not being a back across the top.

I have very shallow counters and low hanging cabinets which leave little room for prep. This might just be my solution.

  1. Yes! I'm hooked. It was impossible to pick a favorite. The plainer & more rustic, the better for me.

  2. I love, love, love a hutch in the kitchen! These are all such beautiful examples. I'm planning on putting one in my new kitchen. I'm just itching for the new cabinets to be installed so that I can start shopping for one!

  7. Alison, I love to see what people choose to display in their hutches as much as the furniture itself!

  11. Alison,

Yes, I am hooked on hutches too!

I have almost all of these images pinned or saved in my favorites files! Now I'm adding your hutch to those! I think I commented a week or so ago about your advertising pieces, which I love and also collect, but seeing it all from afar with your table in front is just stunning! Lately I've been eyeballing everything blue and white so your first couple of photos caught my eye immediately. That huge French piece is outstanding as well!
For my entire marriage I have had a hutch and always had it filled to almost overflowing with dishes and for the past 15-ish years it's been full of transferware. I've got two actually and two built ins as well! lol

As I scrolled through all these beautiful images I was so excited to see you featured my hutch full of brown transferware! SOOOOO flattering! Thank you!

    Enjoy your weekend,

    Nancy

  12. Alison,
I love a pretty hutch, especially when it's filled with pretty pieces of interest. Your hutch, with the clock has always been a favorite. There are some great vignettes here, I'll have to do some pinning!

  13. I LOVE a big hutch!! Mine is one that my wonderful Dad built for my Mom on the occasion of their 25th anniversary. It is made of old pine with handmade hinges, glass in the top doors and an X design in the wooden lower doors. Of course I think it is beautiful!!! It reigns supreme in our dining room, which is open to kitchen, den and living room, so she is the real queen!!!
Thank you for all of the lovely pictures, but I like yours the best :^)
    Blessings,
    J
