Do you love a magnolia like I do?
I love it for its sweet fragrant blossoms
in the spring
and I love it
for its shiny rust-backed leaves
that make perfect additions
when tucked into holiday greens.

So, have you started making plans
for your fresh holiday decor too?
What are you
doing this year?
Oh my, I had to go through these pictures twice! How I wish we could get magnolia leaves up here for decorating with. They are so shiny and pretty. I wonder if we could get a florist to make up something in our area?
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Alison, thanks for all these inspiration images. We don't have a magnolia tree, but our neighbor does. She is gracious about allowing me to use leaves from her tree during the holidays. I like to use them on our mantel. ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteAlison,
ReplyDeleteWhere do you even find magnolia leaves out here? I would love some olive branches while you're at it! LOL! Laurel and Bay, too, if you have 'em!
I usually buy greens from the Tree Farm or Home Depot. I really don't like plastic Christmas decorations. The plastic smell is *squinches nose*.
I loved these photos! I am going on a Pinerest spree now!

I love them in the Fall as well. That combination of green and rusty brown is perfect for Fall and Holiday decorating. Oh boy...I'm getting excited about decorating.....must settle down and wait until after Thanksgiving!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing all this gorgeous inspiration Alison! I can't wait to get started on my Christmas decor!
ReplyDeleteI have a magnolia tree in my back yard now, so I'm going to have to pin some of these pictures! I used some in my fall mantel display and they lasted a really long time.
ReplyDeleteAlison, I was JUST looking at ideas for incorporating magnolia leaves into my greens for the mantel! No magnolia trees around here; but, I'll be going home to Louisiana next week!! Hopefully, I can stock up!
ReplyDeleteThese photos are so beautiful. I didn't realize the back of the magnolia leaf is rust coloured. It looks nice against the greenery. I usually only buy a real fir wreath to hang on the front door. They are hand made locally and I add a bow and some other decor to them. I also gather fresh greens from our trees to put in containers on our decks. They stay out all winter. Actually, they get frozen in the dirt so I can't toss them until spring thaw! lol
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos Alison! I love magnolias and have several in my yard. Wish I had the patience to make a garland or wreath with the leaves!
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday to you...
Cindy
so Southern...I love bay leaves too!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photos! We live in an area with magnolia trees, but I don't have any on the land where we live. I usually use fresh pine greens.
ReplyDeleteAlison- I love these photos. In fact I just ordered my yearly magnolia garlands so that I get them in time for Christmas decorating. I love them! Thanks for sharing these fab pics. xo
ReplyDeleteI do love Magnolia like you do:)
ReplyDeleteMagnolia leaves are a very southern thang. I don't have a tree, but my mom does and my neighbors do. Not sure what I am doing this year.
ReplyDeleteI don't use fresh, because I decorate early and keep it up ito January. I AM very anxious t decorate this new space! I LOVE magnolia leaves too and can get them preserved. I have made mANY things like the picture with the apples, out of faux materials. They turn out beautifully too! Loved AALL these pictures. XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteAlison,
ReplyDeleteI love magnolia garlands and wreathes. I hope to use one on the mantle at a rehearsal dinner we are hosting for our son and fiance this December. Great ideas here.

I'm a sucker for all the natural looking Christmas decorations. Coming from the North West as a child, then the South West, to me those elements are Christmas.

Beautiful leaves and garlands! I like the TheMagnoliaCompany.com photo of the stairway.. wow! Lots of fun ahead with all of the holiday decor!

I had planned to incorporate Magnolia leaves and pods in my Holiday decor. I had it all planned.... boughs on the mantel, the table center piece, the entryway. Those glossy leaves with the copper backs all over the house. But alas, the tree is gone ( see my Blog post Magnolia Grandiflora) My sweet neighbours had to cut it down as it was messing up their drain filed. Sooooo had to rethink Christmas. Until... yes, until another friend offered me as many branches as my lil ole heart desired. I am back on!!!!
ReplyDeleteCan you tell just how much I luv and miss the Magnolia grandi flora that was next door. Thanks for sharing the inspirational pictures..
Cheers, Gee
And to think Alison we have two enormous magnolia trees and I almost never use the leaves in my decor. I should be ashamed.
ReplyDeletethe only plans made are that i want a real tree, and some live wreaths this year. last year it was all faux, and it's not the same.
ReplyDeletemagnolia are gorgeously luxe, aren't they?
love to you.
michele
I love magnolia leaves. Sadly, we can't get them here at all. They are so gorgeous for the Holidays- Blessings-xo Diana

Love where you are going with this post! The magnolia is such a beautiful Christmas accent! I really like the wreath with magnolia leaves tucked into the pine! Thanks for sharing all this inspiration!
ReplyDeleteAllison,
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful example of the many ways to decorate with magnolia leaves...but my favorite is the wreath with the nuts, greens and leaves!
I may have to try to make something, we have a huge tree and there are still flowers blooming on them.
Take care, Elizabeth
I love magnolia leaves and wish I had them here. Just starting to plan for Christmas. :)
ReplyDeleteNo plans yet, I am just getting things unwrapped for Thanksgiving. I love the inspirations you have shared. xo
ReplyDeleteAlison, The house I grew up in had a huge magnolia tree in the front yard. Every Christmas my mother would use the leaves to make beautiful wreaths and garland. Thanks for sharing the pictures and bringing back happy memories.
