The Jockey is Out

Posted a couple weeks ago
about the cement jockey
"The Cavalier"
that I had gotten
while antiquing
in Minneapolis last month.

He is in pritt-eeee bad shape.

I put the question out to all of you
to ask
where I should put him:
inside or out

You all had terrific ideas
as to where you thought
he would work best.

So as it turns out,
I have decided to listen
to both
of your ideas.

He will stay out for the fall
and watch the yard at the door,
and then when the weather changes
and gets cold -- he will come inside
and hold guest towels
in the powder room.

Perfect!

So here is
"Chip"
on duty
this week.
:)

"Hark, who goes there?"      --- a Peter Brady quote   :)

I am honored
to mention that my sweet, talented,
and always inspiring friend, Tina,
at The Enchanted Home
featured me as a guest this week
posting about fall
and all the wonderful things
to love about this special season.

Hope you will
go over and say hello to her
 and visit her gorgeous blog!

  1. If you get tired of him, I could use him in my new dining room. He would fit right in perfectly :)
Although, he is absolutely perfect where he is.

  11. Alison,
That's the best of both worlds! Chip clearly has his work cut out for him, but he looks like he's up to the job. Very fun, I love Chip!
Maybe you should start a fan club for Chip.

  14. I love Chip. He's earned his great patina. He does resemble garden statuary now in the gray.

  15. I think you should whip up a felt saddle in brown and have the Polohouse embroidered on it to throw over his bad arm. It would be in keeping with Chip and the theme for outside and hide his broken arm while welcoming all to The Polohouse..

  16. I love the idea about Chip holding the guest towels!...He certainly looks welcoming and "statuesque" at the front door...I certainly know what you mean about the cold weather being hard on Chip...
    The front porch looks wonderful!

Allison, would love your opinion! I have a hunt master lawn jockey, which has been horriby painted (complete with goatee!!). The question is, to leave him in his hideous au naturel state, or to refinish him properly?
    Please advise! :)

  21. forever ahhh, nevermind! I miss read what you said. My fault, youre wanting those status messages synced up with your phones contacts so it displays it. Gotcha, yeah that would be cool, but I dont mind much to not have that (yet)

  25. Chip looks perfect there at the front door. Love that he's surrounded by all your beautiful fall foliage.
But I'm sure he'll be grateful to come inside as the weather turns colder.

Question, where did you buy Mr. Chip? We have been looking for a jockey for years, and only found one but he was damaged. Any ideas? I love yours, he;s perfect.

  30. Hi! Alison,

That is a fun idea for the powder room. Just love Chip. May I suggest if you want to keep Chip from eroding in the outdoor elements, a good concrete sealer(not sure if you've done that). He will remain handsome & chippy for a long time ;o)

Thanks! for sharing. Have a beautiful week!

    Blessings & Hugs,
    Marlene
