Posted a couple weeks ago
about the cement jockey
"The Cavalier"
that I had gotten
while antiquing
in Minneapolis last month.
He is in pritt-eeee bad shape. |
I put the question out to all of you
to ask
where I should put him:
inside or out?
You all had terrific ideas
as to where you thought
he would work best.
So as it turns out,
I have decided to listen
to both
of your ideas.
He will stay out for the fall
and watch the yard at the door,
and then when the weather changes
and gets cold -- he will come inside
and hold guest towels
in the powder room.
Perfect!
So here is
"Chip"
on duty
this week.
:)
"Hark, who goes there?" --- a Peter Brady quote :) |
I am honored
to mention that my sweet, talented,
and always inspiring friend, Tina,
at The Enchanted Home
featured me as a guest this week
posting about fall
and all the wonderful things
to love about this special season.
Hope you will
go over and say hello to her
and visit her gorgeous blog!

Chip is a hottie!
ReplyDeleteIf you get tired of him, I could use him in my new dining room. He would fit right in perfectly :)
ReplyDeleteAlthough, he is absolutely perfect where he is.
*giggles* I love it! Chip is aptly named!!! LOVE your ideas, too, Alison!
ReplyDeletexo,
Ricki Jill
"Chip" looks really "handsome" among the pumpkins and mums...great welcoming piece.
ReplyDeleteIt's race seasons here in Lexington. He would fit right in on my porch, too!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it and he gets the best of both worlds.
ReplyDeleteI guess Chip deserves to be outside on such pretty fall days! Will be looking forward to seeing him inside soon.
ReplyDeletePerfect. Great idea for both spaces. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteHe look mighty fine outside. I am looking forward to seeing Chip inside holding towels!
ReplyDeleteAllison, he looks great!
ReplyDeleteI love all of the mums and pumpkins!
CAnnot wait to see him next in the guest bath!
Have a great week, Elizabeth
he is so darling, alison.
ReplyDeletei think all guests should be required to give him a smooch before entering, oui?
smiles to you.

Alison,
ReplyDeleteThat's the best of both worlds! Chip clearly has his work cut out for him, but he looks like he's up to the job. Very fun, I love Chip!
Maybe you should start a fan club for Chip.
Karen
I love him among the mums and know he will be a wonderful "butler" for guest towels in the winter!!!! Perfect! XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteSounds perfect! He looks pretty good with the mums and the pumpkins.
ReplyDeleteI love Chip. He's earned his great patina. He does resemble garden statuary now in the gray.
ReplyDeleteI think you should whip up a felt saddle in brown and have the Polohouse embroidered on it to throw over his bad arm. It would be in keeping with Chip and the theme for outside and hide his broken arm while welcoming all to The Polohouse..
ReplyDeleteMy best Melinda Bennett
I love the idea about Chip holding the guest towels!...He certainly looks welcoming and "statuesque" at the front door...I certainly know what you mean about the cold weather being hard on Chip...
ReplyDeleteThe front porch looks wonderful!
Somehow I missed your first post on chip, but I think both ideas are great.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Laura
Alison, you have come up with some wonderful ideas for "Chip". He would be perfect wherever you chose to put him! You always get it right!
ReplyDeleteAllison, would love your opinion! I have a hunt master lawn jockey, which has been horriby painted (complete with goatee!!). The question is, to leave him in his hideous au naturel state, or to refinish him properly?
ReplyDeletePlease advise! :)
Chip looks right at home. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI met a couple of his friends while at Round Top. I'll send you their photos...........Sarah
forever ahhh, nevermind! I miss read what you said. My fault, youre wanting those status messages synced up with your phones contacts so it displays it. Gotcha, yeah that would be cool, but I dont mind much to not have that (yet)
ReplyDeleteChip is perfect. What an awesome addition to your porch and display. xo
ReplyDeleteHi really enjoyed your guest post at Enchanted Home. That picture with with the small building and pumpkin patch was incredible, do you know where it is? I look forward to following your blog and exploring a bit. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteOh he is STUNNING! And I live in Minneapolis! What shop did you acquire this handsome chap? My favorite is H and B antiques and HUNT AND GATHER!
ReplyDeleteI come to say BONJOUR by way of Tina at Enchanted Home! Anita
Chip looks perfect there at the front door. Love that he's surrounded by all your beautiful fall foliage.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm sure he'll be grateful to come inside as the weather turns colder.
Love the nod to Peter Brady :)
So excited to find your blog through Tina today! I think Chip is the best looking thing ever! I intend on searching for one while I'm antiquing this weekend! Good luck, huh? That's a fabulous idea for a powder bath! Love it! Can't wait to start following and reading your beautiful posts! Happy Fall!
ReplyDeletehis chippiness is perfect
ReplyDeleteI think I'm gonna like him as a towel holder. Smart idea.
ReplyDeleteBliss
He is handsome and I think your idea of placing him outdoors now and bringing him in when the weather changes is a great one :) Just found you via Tina's perfect fall day post. I'll look forward to reviewing your blog. I share your love for all things equestrian :)

Hi my name is Maryann and i am a faithful reader of The Enchanted Home. I have enjoyed taking a look at your blog and this weekend when I have time plan to spend more time going through your old posts. I love your elegant style.
ReplyDeleteQuestion, where did you buy Mr. Chip? We have been looking for a jockey for years, and only found one but he was damaged. Any ideas? I love yours, he;s perfect.
Hi! Alison,
ReplyDeleteThat is a fun idea for the powder room. Just love Chip. May I suggest if you want to keep Chip from eroding in the outdoor elements, a good concrete sealer(not sure if you've done that). He will remain handsome & chippy for a long time ;o)
Thanks! for sharing. Have a beautiful week!
Blessings & Hugs,
Marlene
Chip looks great out on your front step with all your gorgeous fall mums! Have a great week! Pamela
