About a week ago,
we went to an antique show
in a Chicago suburb.
It is a show that has been held for over 50
years in a large suburban church. We got there early
and patiently stood in line
with all the other hopefuls.
As we were standing there,
this very sweet dealer who we have
purchased equestrian things
from in the past said,
"be sure to stop by my booth this evening,
I saved something special
for you and it is
under the table in my booth."
Whaaaat?
What could it be?
Well, once they opened the flood gates
so to speak, you can imagine,
I made a bee line to this booth.
She pulled out this silver-plated polo
pony and rider figurine.
I have not ever seen
anything like it before, have you?
No markings. Heavy and very intricate details
to include the harness and the polo mallet, all in tact.
The silver is in nearly perfect condition,
not worn at all. Stands about 12" tall.
As you can imagine, it was love at first site.
Then I found this old
leather trimmed
top hat box. Great patina
with the old velvet faded interior.

| Vintage ormolu box with gold velvet lining. |

| Antique French-style brass desk clock... the arm is missing so the feathers fill the missing appendage. |

| Heavy metal little girl figurine... maybe a bookend at one time? |
 |
| Found a pair of these hunt scene prints in square frames. |
 |

ReplyDeleteOMGOSH- I can't believe I was not following you before. Where have I been? You are just beautiful~as is your blog. MyHero's grandmother was a great horsewoman and was a founding member of the Onieda Golf and Riding Club in this area. We have a wonderful painting of her on her Tennessee Walker. Well, my son has it in his house. I am going to see if I can get a picture of it for you.

Your silver horse and rider are just marvelous. I have never seen anything like them....they are very unusual. How great it is to have a dealer that watches out for stuff like that for you?

Oh Alison - jackpot for you! I love everything you got but especially the horse and rider. It is perfect for you. Great story too of how he held it for you. Seeing your trophies there, I have to tell you that I was at an auction last summer and I bid on this engraved trophey. It went cheap. My husband asked "why are you bidding on that?" "Well, Alison has a few and I like how they look." Of course, I couldn't read the engraving until after I purchased it. I would have liked it to be some horse or cow trophey but it was a first place 440 yd dash trophey won by Richard W. Cavanaugh July 4, 1921 given by the City of Providence. Joke was on me ~ but I still like it. HA!

Wow! That silver horse is awesome. It looks copper to me in the photos, but I would have bought that if I could have afforded only that. I have never seen one like it. I hope you were able to get everything pictured, though! ;o)

Those are all amazing finds. I love them all! The pony & rider figurine is precious. A great piece. Sometimes the makers place their hallmark in the most unusual areas. So, take a close look for a tiny mark. A piece like this one usually has a makers hallmark.
The ormolu box is lovely with the intaglios & keys. Very nice!
Your home featured in cottage of the month is just beautiful! You have great taste!

Love all of your new finds! I have one of those top hat boxes, but never knew that was what is was. I learned something new today. Mine doesn't appear to be old like yours, so it is probably a reproduction.

MMMmmmmm.... that rider on horseback is an especially exquisite piece- very gracefully sculpted legs. I also loved the top hat box! We have a top hat... but have yet to find a box. Love the leather trim on that. It looks like it would go perfectly with your decor. andrea@townandprairie
