Pretty in zinc

Galvanized Vintage Double Bucket with Handle

Wish I knew why
I love this stuff.

What is it about that cool gray
zinc or galvanized metal
that warms my heart?

This zinc table used to be available at Wisteria. Still love it.

Is it because
I grew up on a farm
and this unpretentious,
no frills, no fuss, gray metal
reminds me
of my happy childhood?

It's plain and simple
yet with time
its patina gets better and better.

Round Zinc Table with Urn Pedestal
I really want one of these!   Source

Whatever the case,

I just know
that
LOVE
it all.

  2. I love the look of zinc too. Once on marthas vineyard antiquing with my mother, we found a huge scallop shell about 3 feet in size. It looked like zinc, but it was made out of lead! She bought it and it is in her garden there as an ornament. I love the look of that dull grey.

  4. I love all of that stuff too. I think it has an old world look to it which makes it so appealing. It goes with just about everything too. I really like those barn lights.

  5. Yes, I like it too (though I confess I'm not sure I'd know how to identify zinc and/or distinguish it from galvanized metal...)

Are both magnetic? Any hints about figuring out if I have zinc or not????

That table is AMAZING. I can see why you'd like to have one.

  6. The double bucket I actually have one in my garden. Those zinc suitcases are amazing!

  7. I am with Ann and like the suitcases. I will be posting an old bucket today that has the same feel although it is not zinc but I am sure it is from a farm and possibly a well bucket.

  10. I love the look of zinc too Alison. Funny how you mentioned how your childhood influenced your love of it. My mom is the opposite way. She doesn't like these old looking things because that was what she saw growing up. Today, she likes the look of everything being new. It's only been since she's seen how everyone else decorated with these older looking elements that she likes them more.

Zinc makes a HUGE statement in any decor--I love it and can't seem to get enough of it in my home or using it for design purposes. The same applies to slate...

  15. Love the soft sheen of zinc! I've been drooling over zinc topped tables for a while now and have been toying with the idea of doing zinc counters in our laundry room. Gorgeous pics! Thanks for sharing.
