Well, I very well may be the last
blogger in bloggerland to buy
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint
but I finally did.
Now I see what all the fuss is about!

I bought only one color to try,
and she only had the dark wax in stock,
so here are my first finished pieces
which will go into the shop tomorrow.
I used:
Paris Gray + Dark Wax
(These were all primed
a couple weeks ago
and I did not take any before pics...
so as a point of reference, the table was a
red mahogany with lots of scratches,
the urns were a cheap bronze-look imitation,
and the mirror was a bright gold.)
These items have been in my booth
for months and have not sold.
Hoping the new improved versions will
help them fly out the door!

letting me into your wonderful shop on a rainy Tuesday when you were closed
so I could buy your chalk paint! I was almost two hours from home and
you took pity on me with my "puppy face" and let me in!

I see your working late finishing this great work, wow! I didn't know you were a fast learner and so talented my dear. This pieces are fabulous, they look right out of country French! Gorgeous! Oh...very pretty. I have not tried the chalk paint yet. I'd love to though. I have yet to read a bad review of it. Your pieced turned out so lovely. I'm sure they will sell quickly, now.

ReplyDeleteI just love what you were able to do with that chalk paint! The pieces look so rich now. I adore that table. Too bad you live so far away from me or I'd come and shop at your booth. You are not the only blogger to just now be trying chalk paint. I've got something worse to tell. My sister (aka; queen of chalk paint redo's) has been using it for a very long time and yet I haven't bought the first can of it yet! Sad I know. I hope to order it and try it someday. No one locally sells it.

ReplyDeleteOh. My. Gosh! Those pieces are just gorgeous! You did an absolutely fabulous job. I got chicken and sanded a lot of the dark wax off the piece I did with "Old White" ASCP. Next time I want to try it on a piece that has some dimension to it and leave more wax on like you did.

You did such a lovely job. I'm betting it was difficult to apply the Dark Wax without first using Clear? The wax is kinda' "grabby".
I bought seven different colors and will be posting thm on my blog as I (slowly) paint each piece of furniture.

ReplyDeleteLovely!!! I haven't used Paris Grey yet, but it's in my cabinet and next on my list. What I love the most about ASCP is the hand-rubbed finish. Smooth as glass!
ReplyDeleteYou don't have to use the AS clear wax ... I use Johnson's paste wax. It has a bit of an amber tint to it, and I love how it makes my pieces look a little bit antiqued. (In place of dark wax, I use Johnson's plus a dab of Olde English.)
My crystal ball tells me that these beauties will be finding new, loving home's soon! Great job!

I probably will be the last person in blogland to get AS chalk paint. :) I'm terrible at painting techniques. Yours, however, are fabulous and I'll bet they'll fly out the door when the customers see them. Your pieces look professionally done... and Well done!

Alison - Your pieces look wonderful! From your before descriptions, it must have been a huge transformation and I'm sure the updates will sell the pieces now. I have a huge gold mirror and was wondering how the paint would do on the piece. I think you have given me the courage to try it. Always love your blog......it's always so tasteful.

Hi Alison, I think they look great~and have that old world flavor. I am sure they will get new looks and a new home. When I did my bonnet top desk with chalk paint, I used the Paris grey too, and did certain sections with the dark wax only and others with the light wax. The sections with the dark wax turned an aged greenish shade, which yours don't appear to have...my desk is on my sidebar if you want to compare.
